Is anyone else sick of the pre-election covereage?
The election is 9 days away and I am sick of all the media attention. I think that most people know by now who they are going to vote for, and we are getting more polarized by the second. I think all this negative publicity from the media, the candidiates, thier staffs etc, is really getting to me, and breading hatred. I am a Republican, strongly for Bush, but I never had the contept that I have now for Democrats (granted its more about Kerry than anything), and I know the Dems feel the same way. I am sick of all the stars trying to use thier celebrity status to swing votes.... including Jimmy (though I will continue to see him and buy CD's but for all others I will not). Everytime I get passed by someone with a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker I get the finger, and now I am doing it to them as well. Maybe I am nieve but I do not remember any other election being like this. I want Bush to win, but now more than anything to prevent fighting with my fiance and friends and everyone else, I wish this election was over. Is anyone else sick of it too?

Like you, I'm voting for Bush, but am also sick to death of the negative media coverage and all the no-talent, over-paid "celebrities" who'd starve to death if they actually had to work, suddenly thinking they are experts in the area of national security using their status to sway votes by their clueless lemmings.
I'll be VERY happy when this election is over, and while Jimmy and I tend to cancel out each others vote, I do appreciate the fact that he is at least smart enough to realize his fans are from BOTH side of the political aisle, and, as such, when you go to his concerts, you get a CONCERT, not a political rally/sing-along for the liberal du-jour.
Let him (and everyone else) vote for who he/they want to, but keep the concerts CONCERTS.

I AM SO FREAKING TIRED OF IT I COULD SPIT!!!! All this election has done is divide the country. I don't believe either of the candidates is the greatest for the country although I will be forced to choose.
So many people have fallen victum to reading an believeing the propoganda that each candidate is spewing forth. And after the election whoever is elected is going to not come thru with campaign promises - that's just a fact replayed over and over again yet so many of the American public seem to forget that.
I'll be so glad when this whole thing is over so maybe this and other Buffett boards can maybe not have as many political threads and friends that are now argueing over politics will stop.

And that's the media's fault? Give me a break.markymarker wrote: I am a Republican, strongly for Bush, but I never had the contept that I have now for Democrats
If you're a reasonably intelligent person (and I'm assuming you are, since you're a Buffett fan) you can form your own opinion without having contempt for the other side. If you do have contempt it's certainly not the fault of the media or the dems or the GOP... it's your fault for letting yourself get sucked into the immaturity.
Perhaps it's time to turn the TV off.

Yes, I am sick of it too. That is why I came to the Jimmy Buffett Forum not thinking I would see anything political. I expect it in the off topic forum. As much as I cant stand Bush, I do not have contempt for people that support him. Everyone has to have their own beliefs.markymarker wrote: Is anyone else sick of it too?
It is just another reason how Bush has not carried thru on a campaign promise: "I'm a uniter, not a divider" My ass!

And I am truely happy I counselled at least one Canadian citizen who was thinking about dropping his maple leaf-emblazoned passport for one with an eagle on the cover... to keep the leaf.tikitatas wrote:Glad to be Canadian.

I have strong political beliefs, and while I disagree strongly with those who support Bush, I hold no contempt toward any of them.
And yes the coverage is excecssive, and no, I cannot imagine how anyone could still be undecided when I see such major differences between candidates.
I have been voting for over 30 years and am not sure there has been a presidential election where people were thrilled with the choices-that is the nature of politics, unfortuntely, but it is certainly not unique to 2004.
On the plus side, there is clear evidence that every vote matters, voter registrations are way up nationwide, and one can hope that more people will vote than ever before---all of those are good things (though as an election judge it will make for a very long, busy day for me on the 2nd).
If you don't like the choices, find a way to make a difference. Too many of us just sit back and complain-let's get involved and change things!

Yup, all this rhetoric and very little substance really from both sides. Amazing how Kerry says he can fix everything and evidently has a "plan" for anything that ails you.
Bush on the other hand does a lot to distance many voters from his platform.
Almost makes me want to not vote.

Would you rather a candidate who says he'd change nothing or didn't have any plans for the changes he proposes?GulfCoastPirate wrote:Yup, all this rhetoric and very little substance really from both sides. Personally I think the discussion about what we can do to make America better and how to do that is some of the real value of the elections...

Tired of media coverage? Tired of following what the candidates say
in person, especially impromptu? Not really. We need that sort of info.
Tired of all the canned ads saying more and more frightening things
to dissuade us from being comfortable with either candidate?
HATE IT!!!
Back off, guys!
We know who you want us to vote against already!

But according to Shrub, it's already paradise, and any question against that concept should be met with an angry, "Muuurkuh, Luviturleevityewcommiepinkohippyscumbag" response by all good, true, right-thinking Christian Americans..Key Lime Lee wrote:Would you rather a candidate who says he'd change nothing or didn't have any plans for the changes he proposes?GulfCoastPirate wrote:Yup, all this rhetoric and very little substance really from both sides.
