Main reason for it would be that they spend so much time dancing on stage, there is no way they could clearly sing. They'd be too out of breath, or the jerky movements would affect the sound coming out of their noise-holes.
As a casual fan of Garth Brooks, he ran up and down the stage all night long and he did not lip sync (to the best of my knowledge)
Running is one thing, choreographed dance moves are something else entirely. Have you ever seen Steven Tyler run around on stage?

maybe accurate, maybe not, but that's the perception.

just wondering (since i've only heard one song by her) why is she so talented?? Does she write, sing live, play an instrument, sing without help of machines, etc??
I didn't say she was SO talented, just that she's pretty talented.

The songs are strong, the lyrics are good, and she's got a cool voice that she uses effectively.

Of all of the autotune offenders and poseurs out there she wouldn't even make my top 50 list.

aka: Brittney Spears

just once... I'd like to hear the girl sing ANYTHING live --- not that I'm interested in her voice BUT just so she can prove she has the cohones to expose herself to the potential mistakes of a TRUE live performance in front of an audience...
course, if thats not possible --- I'd just like to see her vocal track start skipping on her in front of 50,000 people at her next concert :P

Madonna and Janet Jackson built their entire careers on lip-synching live performances. They both have the guts to sing live now, but early on they sang over prerecorded tracks through their entire shows.

I saw a thing about her in the studio on MTV. My wife and I were like "who is this non singing person". Then realized it was her.

Is anyone really surprised? Teeny bopper pop music is all style and no substance.

The same could be said about some country music and rap.

The "music" industry is predominately all style and no substance... it is (and always has been) about "entertainers" over "musicians". Occasionally acts with musical talent manage to be entertaining enough to cross over, but the notion that the "music" industry is, or ever has been, about "music" is simply not true.

For the most part people want to be entertained, not wowed by musical prowess.
