Having 2 daughters, aged 10 and 12, I am very familiar with the Simpson sisters. Having listened to both of their cd's I would have to say that Ashlee's is better. Jessica can sing circles around Ashlee, but Ashlee's cd is more fun to listen too. It has a different range of songs from fast to slow where Jessica's sounds very similar.
Neither are huge talents though. Their parents/managers/whoever is in charge have marketed/promoted them brilliantly.

Right on.
When Jessica hits high notes, I think it sounds like someone is squeezing the breathe out of her. She might be able to sing, but she doesn't make fun songs. Ashlee has made some fun songs.

If only someone would, we'd all be alot better off!

True!
Now Ashlee is claiming hectic schedule and many appearances for needing the vocal backing track. Probably true though...

That still leaves the question of why she walked offstage. Doesn't she know her songs well enough to fake it? It's not like she's got a lot of records in her catalog.

That's what I've been thinking. When you perform live, something bad is bound to happen. It's just a matter of when and how bad. How you react says a lot about you. The worst thing you can do is walk out on the audience without an explanation. I really don't know much about her, but there is just no excuse for that in my book.

She had already "sang" the song earlier in the show that they mistakenly started to play for the second performance... her band kept playing "Pieces of Me" instead of the scheduled second song... she could have told the band to stop, but it looks like she's just stunned and bewildered... then she did that stupid dance...

Yes, she could have handled it better. "The show must go on" right.....I guess there is alot more going on behind the scene than we know, or she was just freaked out because that had never happened before.
She called the dance a hoedown. When you jump up and kinda kick out to the side. Pretty ridiculous lookin! lol

I hear both of them will be "singing" backup for Kenny Chesney on his next tour....

They had already done that song and she was probably embarassed. She is only 19 and - let's face it - doesn't exactly have years of club gigs to fall back on for how to roll with the punches.
Whatever - it's no biggie.

I saw Pat Benetar once when she was having feedback issues
she threw the mic down and kicked it backstage and walked offstage
till they fixed the problem. It happens.

For the most part people want to be entertained, not wowed by musical prowess.
I prefer to be wowed by musical prowess as my entertainment...
just difficult to find in major music stores
BUT this must explain why I was never offered a contract by any label

Yeah, but Mac and Mr. Utley wearing 6-sizes-too-small underwear are still never going to sing soprano convincingly... much less look good in those spandex pants and crop-top tummy-topper tops..

So far she has:
1. Blamed her band
2. Blamed her drummer for starting the wrong track
3. Blamed her Manager/Father for making her sing to a recorded track
4. Blamed Acid Reflux
5. Said she lost her voice hours before the show, but her voice seemed fine in the skits she appeared in earlier on SNL.
I would respect her more if she would just be honest.

"It's so embarrassing," Simpson said when she called in to "TRL" Monday (October 25), "because it sucks. The total situation was a bummer. I made a complete fool of myself."
"My dad was like, 'I'm sorry, you have to sing along with the backing track,' "
"I didn't know what to do," she said. "I just froze. My band kept playing the song, like they were always told [to do]. We all went into a state of shock. 'Omigod, what do I do?' So I did the hoe-down and then I ran off."
She wasn't being dishonest... she was doing what others told to do and she reacted out of fear, embarassment and some immaturity. Now I'm starting to really feal bad for her... whether I like her music or not...
