Update!!: My 'keet is leaving for Iraq ......

Post by semitruths »

Thought I’d mention for those who showed interest from previous conversations and as a general note to all others here ..... my 'keet (pictured below) leaves for her readiness training at Ft Dix(?) in NJ tomorrow. In 2-3 months she will ship out to duty in Iraq. Her orders say ‘not to exceed 730 days’ ...... final destination not yet specified.

My daughter has been serving in the Michigan Army National Guard for almost 2 years now in an engineering co. based out of Whitehall/Montague MI. Michelle serves as a supply clerk but has amazed me with what she has learned about weapons and armaments.

Her company of approximately 150 soldiers will be blended with other companies by the time they get to Iraq. In our area of Michigan there are approximately 560 soldiers leaving from 6-7 National Guard and Army Reserve posts within the next 2 weeks.

I will now say that (IMHO) no matter what each of us may think of the validity of the war or what we may think of Bush relative to the war ....... we as Americans must support our soldiers for doing the tremendously difficult task put in front of them ....... for doing their job. Recently I have become aware of the fact that the soldiers are in need of many basic items to keep there existence in Iraq more bearable. Things like bug repellants (esp. flea), small med kits, toiletry supplies (esp. women necessities) ...... I was at Walmart yesterday and found the summer bug repellants tremendously reduced ($0.50 for a $3.00 bottle of Deep Woods Off!!). If it hasn’t happened yet, maybe your local PH club can ‘adopt’ a local company/unit. I would like to thank PHAW and all that have helped her with her latest endeavor regarding our soldiers in Iraq. And a special thanks to all who have already participated in this and other wars.

Many thoughts and prayers are headed your way. I'm so thankful that people like your daughter will go off to war to protect people they've never met (like me).

Amen!

My co-worker's ex-wife and the mother of his two children also leaves this week with a Rhode Island National Guard unit. :(

God Bless Michelle and all her fellow Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen. May they do their job well, serve with honor, and return home safely.

She'll be in our prayers, ST.

Raising a daughter to fight for our country has got to be one of the ultimate sacrifices a person can make. Here's hoping she'll stay safe through the days and months ahead of her.

If there's anything either one of you need, don't hesitate to call on us.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

Many kind thoughts and wishes for safety go out to Michelle. I have a 21 year-old daughter and I understand the feelings of pride and love you have for her as her family.

Someday may there be NO wars for our children to be sent to.

PEACE. Image

Your Daughter will be in my prayers each night, along with all the brave men and women of our armed forces and those of our allies.

God bless you and her.

Thanks Brad...that is a beautiful and perfect sentiment.

ST...Michelle will be in my prayers. Give her an extra hug from BN...and also a big thank you.

My cousin Pam will be headed to Iraq in Dec. She goes to Ft. Campbell for training in Nov, then to Bagdhad in Dec. :(

Funny how you can be so sad and yet so proud, all at the same time.

ST......I will be thinking of you and your family tomorrow....I can NOT imagine the mixed emotions it will bring. I am sure you are very proud of her, and tomorrow before she leaves tell her there are many people thanking her for the sacrifice she is making for our Country.....

She will be in my prayers each night.
