My daughter has been serving in the Michigan Army National Guard for almost 2 years now in an engineering co. based out of Whitehall/Montague MI. Michelle serves as a supply clerk but has amazed me with what she has learned about weapons and armaments.
Her company of approximately 150 soldiers will be blended with other companies by the time they get to Iraq. In our area of Michigan there are approximately 560 soldiers leaving from 6-7 National Guard and Army Reserve posts within the next 2 weeks.
I will now say that (IMHO) no matter what each of us may think of the validity of the war or what we may think of Bush relative to the war ....... we as Americans must support our soldiers for doing the tremendously difficult task put in front of them ....... for doing their job. Recently I have become aware of the fact that the soldiers are in need of many basic items to keep there existence in Iraq more bearable. Things like bug repellants (esp. flea), small med kits, toiletry supplies (esp. women necessities) ...... I was at Walmart yesterday and found the summer bug repellants tremendously reduced ($0.50 for a $3.00 bottle of Deep Woods Off!!). If it hasn’t happened yet, maybe your local PH club can ‘adopt’ a local company/unit. I would like to thank PHAW and all that have helped her with her latest endeavor regarding our soldiers in Iraq. And a special thanks to all who have already participated in this and other wars.
