I saw Kenny at the AT&T Blues Festival in Radio City Music Hall 8 years ago, had no clue who he was at the time. He opened the show, the other acts on the bill were Delbert McClinton, The Neville Brothers and BB King, and closed his set with Hendrix' Voodoo Chile. If you closed your eyes you would have sworn you were listening to Hendrix.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

i've seen kenny twice.amazing technical guitarist,i just dont feel he's as pure of a blues man as SRV was.
i wish my buddy would get his ass in gear and start playing out more,he's just unreal but hasnt gotten the "break" yet.
he's actually the guitarist from Stainds instructor

Has anyone read the book Caught in the Crossfire?? It's one of the 3 out about Stevie's life. Pretty interesting I thought.

This all makes me run out to Oak Cliff to pay a visit to his grave listening to his music.... 8)
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I think he was still considerably under the shadow of the greats he emulated such as Hendrix and Albert Collins. Riveria Paradise was just a hint of what was to come, much like the work Hendrix was doing prior to his death. There's no telling what either of them had up their collective sleeves next but I think we all know it would have been incredibly mindblowing. I thought the Brother To Brother album he did with Jimmie Vaughan, especially Tick Tock, was proof that he had lots more to offer than just the usual guitar histronics (playing it behind his back, with his teeth, etc.) That makes for great showmanship but it takes a very skilled musician to move beyond those traps and I think he definitely had it in him. I think Kenny Wayne Shepherd is approaching (or has very possibly surpassed) that era of his career in the last year or so.
i absolutely think he had more to offer.and while the behind the back thing was cool i dont get too impressed by that.my buddy is the most amazing guitarist i have personally seen and he could do a whole show behind his back.the showmanship of SRV i love was the pure, raw emotion that seemed to come right throught the strings, out the speakers and to your ears.you felt like you knew what he was thinking right then.not too many people could mix that kind of emotion with the pure technical skills he had

I think had Stevie lived he would have EXPLODED. He had only gotten clean and sober a short time before his death and once he did that his talent was growing by leaps and bounds. Let's face it a lot of Stevie's early stuff he's stoned on coke and drunk of crown.

yea. He had to get straight or die too. He didn't snort coke he put it in his drinks and it really messed up his stomach big time. BUT one of the good things from his death is the NA group he used to attend is still around and strong as ever. They don't publicize that he used to attend their group - I just knew someone who was a long time member of that group.

Wasn't SRV with Eric Clapton at Alpine when SRV got on the helicopter by himself?

I saw BB King is Indiana last year and he could not hold a candle to SRV . . BB was also 70 some years old too!
