Keith Urban Steps UP

Post by a1aara »

Keith Urban steps up
Tsongas Arena, Lowell, Mass., Oct. 26, 2004
By Maxine McPherson
Keith Urban finally stepped up. He finally headlined his own tour. After years of opening for acts like Brooks and Dunn and Kenny Chesney, Urban brought his own show to town.

In an era when country stars seem to be going for stage productions with enormous blow up dolls, multiple slide screens and bigger is better, Urban is keeping it simple. Other than a few lights, the backdrop monkey symbol he's used for the last few years and a "Hope" sign that lights at the end of the concert - the stage is bare except for the speakers, instruments and musicians.

The show opened with newcomer Katrina Elam. She did a good job of warming up the audience with her vocals and yodels, but it was clear the crowd wanted Urban.

Opening with his latest hit, "Days Go By," Urban had the audience up and moving as he raced through a number of songs from his new CD "Be Here," hits from his first CD and the double-platinum "Golden Road."

The set included "Where the Blacktop Ends" and "I Wanna Be Your Everything" from his debut album, "Who Wouldn't Want to Be Me," "Jeans On," "You'll Think of Me scribed as a "trailer trash song," called "Homespun Love."

The focus was on songs from the new CD. The group rocked with "Better Life" and "You're My Better Half."

However, sitting alone with an acoustic guitar in a soft white light singing the romantic "Making Memories of Us," you have to wonder why he even needs the band. He brought the screaming crowd to a silence during the encore, when he again appeared alone, this time with a keyboard, and did the moving "Tonight I Wanna Cry." Not to leave the audience feeling low, he did finally end the two -our show with "These Are the Days."

The arena wasn't a sell-out like the Chesney concerts he's opened for, but that will come. It was time for Keith Urban to move up - and he did it his own way, he made it about the music.

thanks a1aara, great article

thats one of the things i like most about KU and it is what in my opinion distinguishes him from most other popular country acts. He is about the music, and he has musicianship. I'm deffinatley looking forward to seeing his show in a few weeks from now!

What? No complaints about posting another Keith Urban article and God forbid it's not under the same thread. Surely you jest... :D

That wasn't my question. You're one of the chief complainers when it comes to Drive-By Truckers posts (or any one of my posts for that matter, but were somehow strangely silent on the number of duplicate posts there were for Fenway, Vegas, etc.) so I figured your menopause medicine would have kicked in on this one too.

Oh, and to quote alaara (not sure how you missed this) when you got on him for posting what you percieved to be a negative Keith Urban review:

"I personally don't have a problem with Keith Urban or his music. Just thought some folks would be interested in the review."

Ah, but this thread does interest me. You have made it obvious that you have more than a passing disdain for the Drive-By Truckers but that hasn't stopped you from posting in those threads. By the way, you still haven't answered my question.

Jahfin, your quesiton was "What?"

if you are asking me why i don't have a problem with this thread and i do with yours its because you post the same lame pointless sh*t on the DBT and you know that nobody gives a damn about them

i really don't see what this has to do with you not posting in threads that don't interest you. Plus, i never said i don't look at threads that don't interest me, i do it all the time.

25 more to go . . . .hopefully by the end of the week i'll be up to 500

anyway, back on topic, Thanks again for the review a1aara. I'm glad to see that his concerts are getting good reviews, i've never been to one but i hear that they're very good. I've only recently (in the past year or so) become a big Keith Urban fan. I actually used to hate him until i realized it was him that was writing the songs, producing the songs, and playing every string instrument in his songs. Quite a talented man, and i like a lot of the messages behind his songs.

Oh, I'm not arguing. I'm just holding DsilCaribe to the same standards that he (and others) attempts to hold me to. By the way, my question was not "what?". Try reading that post again and use a little brain power to help you decipher it this time. Same goes for the posts I and others have made about the DBTs. If you had actually taken the time to read them you would see they are not the "same lame pointless sh*t on the DBT". As for you comment that "you know that nobody gives a damn about them", that's your own misguided perception. I know lots of people visit this site just lurk and never post so you have absolutely no way of knowing what does and doesn't interest others, including how many people actually care about Keith Urban. Taking a poll only proves you know how to use that function of the messageboard and that's about it. Otherwise, it proves absolutely nothing.

You've got to be kidding me if you think a poll doesn't prove anything, because that is just so ignorant. 31 people voted. 2 said they like DBT, one of which being you. That means out of everyone that voted here, only one other person likes that band. That says something, regardless of however you want to percieve it. I think you should use a little brain power and understand what polls tell us.

I didn't vote and I like the DBT's.

If I was worried about what was popular, I would be listening to Ashley Simpson and Usher.
