It was good enough. It's nothing comparable to Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head...but no albums ever will be. The new one has got great beats... much better than Hello Nasty in my opinion. Of course, it's a little too political, but that's okay... beats are what I'm intersted in more.Key Lime Lee wrote:The Beastie Boys record was good Ann?
I haven't heard it yet...
(but I did buy two rockin' Ashlee Simpson tunes from itunes).

I AM AMENDING MY LIST BECAUSE THERE WAS A RELEASE THAT CAME OUT TODAY THAT TAKES THE #1 SPOT. IT WILL BE REPLACING THE VERY CONTROVERSIAL MANA UNPLUGGED RELEASE THAT WAS BOUGHT IN 04 BUT RELEASED IN 01. JAHFIN, I'M SORRY PAL, BUT YOU CAN NO LONGER GET ON MY CASE ABOUT THE CONTROVERSIAL RELEASE. ITS OVER, SORRY
HERE WE GO:
1) Alejandro Sanz - grandes éxitos 91_04 (3cd luxury box set edition)
this album takes the #1 spot because of several reasons. First off, i can't think of any compilation better than this one. It has the perfect amount of songs and good serving of rarities. 3cds, one for the hits from 91-96, another cd of hits from 97-04, and another one rarities and duets, along with 2 new singles. I don't think i could have asked for anything better from Sanz or whoever decides upon compilations. This compillations truly proves Sanz, and in my opinion all of these songs are the best produced work i've ever heard, and is uniquely Spanish (i.e. Spain) unlike all of the other puerto-rican, mexican, and latin-american artists. Sanz is my favorite songwriter tied with Buffett. Both of them have the power of moving my soul with their music, something that is very rare and much appreciated.
2) Keith Urban - Be Here
great songwriting. great singing. great instrument-playing. especially good guitar solos. good everything. What i like about this album most is that there isn't a single song i remotley dislike, something that i usually don't find.
3)Alejandro Sanz - No Es Lo Mismo
great latin music. Alejandro's music is very unique. This is a great album, and won everything it was nominated for at the Latin Grammys this year.
4) Jimmy Buffett - License to Chill
although its not nearly my favorite buffett album, its still very good and is one of the top ones i've gotten in 04'
5) Los Lonely Boys (im not 100% sure this was in 2004 but i think it was)
These boys have a bright future ahead of them. I'm deffinatley looking forward to seeing them live sometime and listening to them for the rest of their careers.
6) Alan Jackson - What I Do
Solid work from Alan, though i haven't listened to it latley its a good album and one of the tops on my list for 04'
7) Juanes - Mi Sangre
another very talented latin rock artist. Excellent guitar work and songwriting, especially on "Lo Que Me Gusta A Mi"
8 ) Rod Stewart - The Great American Songbook III: Stardust
Although i haven't actually gotten around to buying the album i've listened to it on aol many times. Im gonna buy it as soon as i get the paycheck. Also, my cousin produced this album.
9) Marc Anthony - Nada Personal
I know someone is laughing at me because they think of marc anthony as the dude that married J Lo or the guy that had that one hit "I need to know", but his spanish stuff is excellent, and he has been deemed the "King of Salsa" by many, as Maná have been deemed the kings of latin Rock. Great album, i need to listen to it more.
10)Travis Tritt - My Honky Tonk History
not nearly as good as "Down The Road I Go" or any of his later releases, but nonetheless a good disc. Especially "I See Me" and "Honky Tonk History"

There's really no need to apologize, isn't it much more fun (not to mention easier) to include 2004 albums? One thing I've found out from the various boards this thread has been posted on is, there's a lot of people out there b itching about the current state of music but very few that are willing to take a chance on it.DsilCaribe wrote:JAHFIN, I'M SORRY PAL, BUT YOU CAN NO LONGER GET ON MY CASE ABOUT THE CONTROVERSIAL RELEASE. well, take a chance on Alejandro Sanz grandes exitos 91_04 everyone! If you like soft very relaxing flamenco and latin pop influenced sounds, Sanz is the best, y el es un cantante perfecto para descubrir el mundo de la musica latinaJahfin wrote:. . .but very few that are willing to take a chance on it
Well, I take part in year end music lists on at least a couple of music discussion groups I belong to and none of us ever seem to have any problem coming up with albums we'd like to include. In fact, this year for instance there were several records I would have liked to have included but there simply wasn't room. There will be a few more albums coming out between now and the end of the year that will likely alter the list I posted here but I doubt they will be radical changes. To my ears, this has been a very good year for music and there's still plenty of albums there I haven't heard yet.

Anal retentive freak that I am, I have a list of my CDs on my computer at home, alphabetical by artist and including the release date. I finally got around to doing a search last night and I haven't bought 10 CDs that were released this year so I'll just list the ones I did buy
Jimmy Buffett - License To Chill
Jimmy Buffett - Live In Hawaii
John Fogerty - Deja Vu All Over Again
Amy Lee - Use Me
Mac McAnally - Semi-True Stories
Joss Stone - Mind, Body & Soul
