Auburn in the National Championship

Post by captain strongo »

Just wondering if anyone out there is going for the Auburn Tigers to win the national title? If your team has no chance of winning it this year, who are you going for? WAR EAGLE!

Well if Auburn makes it past Tennessee in the SEC Championship game, then I will root for them. I always like to see a SEC team do well nationally.

It is tough to beat the same team twice in a year. 2001 was a painful lesson in that to all us Vols. While, I won't go as far as predicting my Vols will win in Atlanta, the game will be much tougher fought than our first meeting. If Auburn beats a top 5 Georgia team in 2 weeks and then a top 10/5 Tennessee team in Atlanta, they will deserve to play in the Orange Bowl imo.

I'm actually more concerned about the Tigers playing on astroturf. They've never been too strong playing on carpet.

Tennessee has never played well in the SECCG. I am hoping we reverse that trend this year. Even if we don't, I'm ecstatic with this year. I was seriously thinking we might go 7-4 or even 6-5 during the offseason.

If they can run through the SEC undefeated, they'd certainly have my vote. But (a) I don't actually get a vote and (b) I just don't see USC or OU losing from here out. True, stranger things have happened, but it would take a pretty good sized upset.

Much credit to Auburn if they run the SEC table...but it bothers me that their non conference schedule was LA-Monroe, The Citadel and LA-Tech. :o What, LA-Lafayette wasn't available?

ALL teams who have title aspirations should play at least 1 non conference foe with some national standing imo.

OU played Bowling Green and Houston?
USC played CO State and BYU?

You also have to keep in mind that some conferences (cough, cough PAC-10) just aren't as strong as others (SEC). PAC-10 has two teams that are 1-7. SEC West's worst team is 3-4. SEC, as a whole, has one team that is 1-7. Needless to say, they beat up on each other a little more in the SEC.

Don't get me wrong, USC is a top notch program, but I would be surprised if OU stays ranked so high.

USC played CO State and BYU? EVERYBODY plays a couple of dogs (not dawgs) on their non conference schedule...the key is to play at least 1 respectable team. OU had Oregon, USC had Va Tech and when they scheduled CO State they had been OK.

You can't help the ebb and flow of your conference rivals. You do have control when you schedule 3 teams from Mid Major conferences and not 2 Mid Majors and 1 from a major conference!
Not saying Auburn is not Championship worthy...just wish the non conference schedule had been tweaked a bit.

Wouldn't shock me. I don't see Georgia dashing that hope but they may have to face Tennessee (the worst luckiest team in the SEC) for the SEC Championship.
When they run you out of town make it look like you are leading the parade.
