I too can find something good to say about most music. "Its not my type, but whatever.."etc. I will let you know when I find something good to say about BnR or Gretchen WIlson...If you dont think they are the "anti-music", then just listen or read the lyrics to a Guy Clark, John Prine, Bruce Robison, or Patty Griffin song followed by a few from one of these clowns and see what thoughts that brings out. i agree that not all music has to be serious, and sometimes you just want to party, etc, but you dont have to sell your "countryness" as a bumpersticker in order to have people feel you. If you are from the south/country/wherever, it will come out in your music if you are being real. You wont have to tell people. Yes, they are popular, but so is Britney SPears, but I dont love pop music so I am not nearly as offended by Britney Spears. They are a huge distraction away from true artists who, while often being "here for the party" are also putting out good, honest music. To me, this group of pop country guys are somehow akin to wrestlers on the WWF(E?), cant really explain why, thats just what they make me think of...
btw-no offense to anyone on the board, just my opinions, I could be wrong...
Finally, any "country" musician who can put "bling-blingin" in a song without tasting vomit should be asked to leave...the country..

At least Gretchen Wilson writes her own music which is one of the complaints voiced here regarding quite a few of the country artists.

And personally I think Redneck Woman is a really good statement for the women of America who don't shop at Neiman Marcus, Saks or any of the expensive stores found in the US. That song is a statement for and about the everyday middle class woman.

HELL YEA!!

I would agree with you for the most part but not about Gretchen Wilson. If you listen to her album she is quite good. As KeyLimeLee said the other day (not exact quote but close enough) " the music industry is not geared toward true musicians but toward entertainers". I couldn't agree more! which is where Britney, BnR and a few thousand others fit.

not liking someone because they won't cut their hair is about as narrow as not liking someone cause they lost their hair and shaved their moustache.

I guess you never liked Crystal Gayle either for that same reason

personally i think he is a guitar virtuoso for today's country music, and i wouldn't say thats a stretch. What other country acts incorperate the kind of guitar work that he puts into his live shows (and records, but not nearly as much)? You will find no others (or atleast no others that are played on radio, because i can just see Jahfin saying that the Drive-By Truckers are better right now).

Here's What Capitol Nashville said about his guitar work:

As a songwriter, you put more of yourself into your music than ever before. As a vocalist, you sing with newfound passion and commitment. Already recognized as a true guitar hero, you play your instrument with even more fire and skill. "For me, it's just a matter of getting more comfortable in my own skin," Urban confesses. "I hope that there's more of me coming through in the music. I think that comes from getting comfortable with myself as a person and as a musician, but also from getting comfortable in the studio. In the end, all you can do is live and learn."

Here's what CMT.com said:
The resulting fusion of rock-style guitar work with country music has become Urban's signature style. . . . . . Critics raved about the album's unique take on country music and Urban's virtuoso guitar playing.

I can find more if you want, but i'd think its safe to say that Urban is deffinatley one of the best (if not the best IMHO) guitarist on the modern commercial country music market

PRETTY MUCH ANYONE WHO CAN PLAY MORE THAN RYTHM GUITAR AND CAN PUT TOGETHER A HALF ASS SOLO IS CONSIDERED A GUITAR GOD THESE DAYS.I THINK PART OF THAT COMES FROM SO MANY YEARS WITH NO TALENT WINGNUTS LIKE N-SYNC WHO COULDNT PLAY ANYTHING,SO IF SOMEONE CAN EVEN PLAY AN INSTRUMENT THEY ARE MUSICAL GENIUSES.
I CAN ONLY THINK OF A FEW GUITAR VIRTUOSOS AND URBAN IS NOT ONE OF THEM
let's see..

Keith Richards
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Santana
.....
JIMMY BUFFETT (according to John Kerry  )

yea he may be good but he sure needs to learn how to control his temper tantrums on stage that's for sure!!! In a recient show a person in the audience was holding a sign criticizing Urban for not having his band performing with him that night and Urban threw a wall eyed hissey fit.

no kidding! i'd like to read about that, do you remember where you got that info?? Thats really interesting, i think what it was was that Urban got a new band for this tour (who i've heard is much better than his former band) so maybe they were upset about that.
