Veteran Recognition Thread.

Post by PHBeerman »

Hello all. I think today is a good day to recognize all within our extended BN family who have served, or are currently serving our country and protecting our freedoms.
(This is going to be a very partial list) Please add any that I have missed.

Thank you all. The fact that I can get out of bed everyday and do whatever I want is attributed exclusively to your service to all of us.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body; but rather to skid in PortSide, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming,
'What a lovely cruise!'

Thanks BN Veterans!

I just got off the phone with my step-dad who did 3 tours in Vietnam on the U.S.S. Racine and spent a total of 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He is one of the most honest, hard working people I have ever met. Not really trying to make a point here other than THANK YOU for all of the freedom I enjoy every day of my life.

It's all 'cause of you!

I know this space is for BN'rs, but since I'm such a slacker, i wanted to just say to my father, Lloyd, I am proud of you. Drafted with a new wife (high school sweetie and still together 64 years later) and a newborn son (big bro)

My Dad was part of the Normandy Invasion, surviving Omaha Beach. A week after liberation, he was struck by a snipers bullet while patrolling the streets of Cherbourg.

Rather than coming home, he volunteered to remain and was assigned to a Military Police unit and guarded German POW"s for the duration of the war. D-Day was extremely hard on my Dad and he has rarely spoken of it, other than the $20,000 he said he had won playing poker on the ship going over, that he discarded with is pack under heavy enemy fire.

Also, bro, Lloyd Jr. you successfully guarded Paris Island SC and Glenview Illinois from the Vietnamese. So what if you never went over there, you volunteered and thats better than I did, I am very proud of you as well

Thank everyone for all they have done for us.
Without your sacrifice, I don't know where the US would be right now.

My FIL and his twin went in the Navy together.

Thanks to all of those above.

And also to Daddy who was in WWII, hated every minute of it and never mentions it....but who served none-the-less.

And to my brother who served in Viet Nam. Hmmm, he never mentions it either....

Here's to peace on earth so that our future veterans can say they never had to fight a war....just prevent them.....

To my Dad who served in WWII in the Philippines.

And to my Mom who served as an Army nurse at an EVAC (21st?) hospital in Pusan, South Korea during the Korean conflict.

My mom outranked my dad. She was a lieutenant and he was a sergeant. Four of her brothers served in WWII.

They all came home.
