Disapointed with Jimmy
I have been the biggest Buffett fan for the majority of my 22 years on this planet. I have seen him all across America, from florida to hawaii, to chicago, east troy st. louis, and Dallas.
There is no doubt that he is the greatest entertainer of all time, anyone who has been to a concert would agree. But he definately disappointed me on the CMA's when he messed up three times:
1. He was dressed nice, there was no Hawaiian shirt to be found, not even a lei.
2. He had shoes on, Jimmy never plays with shoes on. Even on Leno, Letterman and the today shoe he kicks it island style and goes barefoot.
3. I did not see one beach ball, very very disturbing.
I hate to think that he sold himself out with his last album just to get some recognition and awards. Don't get me wrong I love his new album, but it isnt Jimmy.
Maybe he ran out of material, maybe he needs to go on more vacations and travel the caribbean all over again. Because as all parrotheads know, Jimmy didn't become famous with his country songs, it is the island rhythms that have been taking us to paradise all along.
Jimmy, get lost in the reggae mon!

If you're really going to question Buffett over such trivial things you might be wise to look into his history prior to the parrothead phenomenon taking off. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm more of a fan of his music than I am of his image so none of those things even enter the picture when considering his most recent round of success. As for the island music thing, yeah it's been there all along but so has the country music influence. It's the mixture of the two (and several other styles) that makes his music so unique to my ears, not just the island ting.

Here's the deal, Jimmy has never made music to please anyone but himself his music has changed and evolved and right now its closer to what it once was who knows what will be next, if you enjoy it good for you if not good for the rest of us. I doubt he worrys about all the awards but I'm sure he enjoys them why not, so don't get to uptight about it relax and enjoy!

Gee, in all your 22 years.......lets see, 1982ish, I (and many here) had already seen Jimmy oh, about seven or eight times. I had been to Key West, I just purchased "Somwhere Over China" making it the 11th album I had purchased (including the compelation "Before The Salt") not to mention the ones I had already duplicated on 8 tracks and cassettes.
Gee, you are disappointed in Jimmy, I bow to your magnificent record of 22 years on the planet and the great experience that must have afforded you. In the words of my father, "Son, I have a pimple on my a$$ that is older than 22"
I claim no proprietary relationship with Jimmy, how the F... do you. Give me a freakin' break. Relax and listen to the music or shut the f up, I DO NOT CARE. Don't act like you own Jimmy or he owes you anything. He certainly doesn't.
And that is all I have to say about that.
(for the record, this is probably my best non-alcohol induced rant)

He ain't wrong he's just different
but his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right

Re: Disapointed with Jimmy
Ok, I wont get as worked up as some people about Evry inserting an opinion, but I did want to insert mine too. I dont understand why your basing all of your disapointments on one song in a TV show. It wasnt a concert
He seldom wears a hawaiian shirt or a lei even in concert, usually just a solid color neon shirt.Evry ting irie mon wrote:1. He was dressed nice, there was no Hawaiian shirt to be found, not even a lei.
Wearing shoes is probably not a sign of selling out, and I dont think the shoes made him change his style. But, if you are gonna quit being a fan because he wore shoes on TV show, thats your choice.Evry ting irie mon wrote:2.He had shoes on, Jimmy never plays with shoes on. Again, it wasnt a concert, it was a 3 minute segment on TV. The place was not filled with parrotheads, it was filled with other famous artists. Who knows if beach balls were even allowed in.Evry ting irie mon wrote:3. I did not see one beach ball, very very disturbing.
