I think that one can certainly have family values without being dogmatic about religious morality...

Depends on what you believe good values are I guess.

God loves everyone, but probably prefers "fruits of the spirit" over "religious nuts". Who was it that said that? :P I go to church, and am a Christian, but everybody in my church knows I'm a parrothead, and some even now like Jimmy. I make sure they know all the community work the PHIP's do. I had one guy say something about "worshipping" only God, not other things like musicians or sports (he may have seen my car, with Parrothead and Tennessee stuff all over it). I calmly smiled, said I agreed with him and asked him where he was last Sunday, that we missed him. He was HUNTING!!!!

"I am Christian"

vs.

"I am a Christian"

I can't believe I'm reading this stuff on this post. One of the coolest things about being a Buffett fan for the past 20 years is that most people don't get it. I'm a sailor from Florida and Jimmy's music reflects my lifestyle. It appears that his music has become so popular that it is getting reviews in mainstream cultural magazines. I did'nt care if anybody dug his music when nobody outside Florida knew who he was and I sure don't care what some guy writing reviews from behind a desk who has probably never been 12 miles from land in their lives thinks.

"Television preachers with bad hair and dimples" !!!!!
I agree that everyone is entitled to free speech, hell, that's why we can post on this (great) site. I do tire of so many people "expressing" their disappointments in other people's views. The most important part of being a "Christian" is to hate the so called sin but, love the sinner. The second is, it isn't your job, or place to judge. God takes care of all of that for us. I'm Catholic and very happy to be. I don't have bumper stickers or T-shirts or posters saying "I AM CATHOLIC". Most people know a little about the beliefs of the Catholic church and knowing I am Catholic would tell them a little about what I believe however, if I don't live that set of beliefs quietly and I might as well give it up.
Now I will get off of my soapbox and go have a Margarita in the name of Free Speech!!!! Have a great evening!

Jimmy 3:16

To parallel the verse that often is hung on a banner at ball games,
John 3: 16

Jimmy 3:16 For God so loved the world that he sent he only besotted Son of a Son of a Sailor, so that we might have everlasting liphe!!

Being a Parrot Head can be a spiritual expericence!.... I don't mean the religious kind, per se... But the spirit of life... Each person gets something different out of what Jimmy sez.

I held up a banner that said "Jimmy 3:16 to Jimmy before curtain drop at my FIRST concert in Dec 99 in Houston, and Jimmy saw it, and he GOT IT. He gave me a "fins" as I was seated to the side of the stage, behind the curtain. Blew my mind... When he came to the side of the stage later, I held up my poster again, and we traded bows.... It was SO cool...

I have always been amused by the various song lines and references in his songs to church, God and spirituality... (Vampires, Mummies and the Holy Ghost", etc)

His verses are like a trip thru his life, and his spiritual experiences. The wild life had betrayed him... (lol) and has shown his ups and downs, in his songs and books, etc.

I go to church every week, and no, I don't look down on Jimmy. Why else would I be on this forum? Our church is really big, and maybe it is not perfect if you look real close, but it serves a good purpose.

Whether a person uses religion (of any kind) or status, clothes, money, cars or tequila brands to look down on or mistreat others, there will always be those kind in the world that think they are better.

Jimmy is cool. Take him ... and the critics for what they are worth, live and let live, forgive and get on with liphe.

The US founders separated church and state for a reason, and hopefully our nation will find a balance.

There really is a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

I like Jimmy's songs, and enjoy his own personal experiences, good or bad, and wish him and his family the best along the way.

A long time ago someone wrote a couple of books on the Peanuts comic strip, you know, Snoopy and Charlie Brown? It was the Gospel Acccording to Peanuts.

Someone could easily do the same thing with Jimmy's songs.

And you could ALSO write a book on his enteprenural adventures too!
But watch out. Krispy Kreme stock has dropped!!! I wonder if his Uncle Warren sold off his KK stock yet?
