Auction
At the urging of several people here, I am posting this request publically, although several have already come to my rescue in private.
I am on the Auction Dinner Committee of Prince of Peace Catholic Academy in Clinton, Iowa. Like most private schools, every year is a struggle financially. Like many catholic schools, due to the actions of a couple of preists in the 50's and 60's, the Davenport Archdiocese is contemplating bankruptcy. If that were to happen, the school that employs Mrs Bear and teaches my three daughters will lose 40% of its overall funding.
The Auction Dinner is our largest fund raiser of the year. For this years event I have begun putting together a themed dinner, "A Night In Margaritaville". Some very generous parrotheads are already contributing, both in Clinton and from right here on BN. A local restaurant is hosting. This is an 1880 victorian with lots of charm and charactor. We will be decorating the upstairs room like an old "Conch House" Mrs Bear and I will be the wait staff and bar tenders and the owner is flying in conch, crab, and fresh fish for the grill. We are planning on jerk chicken and all sorts of other "island treats"
In addition, I am putting together a gift basket for the winner to take home. Today by email I found out that Jimmy himself will be sending along an autographed photo, as is Nadirah. Our own Lee Totten is helping me get items from other coral reefers and Creeky promised to help me talk to her best friend Amy Lee.
Historically, themed dinners fetch upwards of $1500. I am hoping with the gift basket of authentic items to do significantly better than that.
How can I help? You may be asking. (I hope anyway) If you would like tp purchase a new Buffett CD (any one will do), his new book, the previous books, DVD, a shirt, hat or other "Buffett" item, a hawaiian shirt, Corona items, tailgating gadgets anything that can make the gift basket even better, we sure would appreciate it. My wife and I have already purchased many items, but remember, they are bidding on a dinner for 4. So duplication of items is not a bad thing.
The 284 children that attend Prince of Peace, the faculty, staff and the community of Clinton Iowa in general thank you for your consideration of this request.
If you wish to participate, please PM me ASAP with what you plan on doing and I will give you all the rest of the information you need.
Thank You,
Bill, Norma, Carie, Erin and Emily

If you know what is heading our way, could you PM me or Cubbie, or e-mail direct? That way I can get the list to the printers on time. The items themselves actually don't have to be in hand until January 14. Thanks again so much....you are all terrific and the package will be outstanding!
PPS-if anybody is interested in tickets for the dinner/auction for themselves, let me know....I can hook you up! Normally they are $30 each -social hour at 5:00, dinner at 6:00, silent auction throughout, and live auction at 9:00. It's a great cause! You can also reserve tables instead of individual tix-usually 8 to a table (same price)
Welcome to the Caribbean, love!
