My personal favorite from the list:

19 Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies, 1988

orig. Velvet Underground, 1970

Spare, evocative remake of the Velvet Underground's 1970 original. Much moodier and less grungy, it is Margo Timmins' almost whispered vocals, recorded in a church, which reignite Lou Reed's seedy, downtown anthem. The pacing and phrasing are perfect. Key moment: Timmins's longing, languorous bridge: "Heavenly wine and roses seem to whisper to me when you smile."

On that list, I liked the Who's version of Summertime Blues. I'm sure there were a lot more that could be added.

A little over a year ago, our paper's entertainment section did a list of the 25 worst cover songs and JB and Sinatra's "Mac the Knife" was 24 on the list. I haven't read the "entertainment" section since.

First, I must say, thank you Jah for just posting the link and not all 50 songs.

Second, how can a Brittany Spears song be on there and not Al Green's "Take Me to the River" as covered by The Talking Heads? Is there no justice in this world?

Bruce originally wrote the song, patty smith made it famous though. Bruce often does this song in concert.
