But if you get caught speeding you get a speeding ticket or at the worst ya lose your license for a while. This is done in an effort to curb your behavior. But after a little while you are given another chance to drive like everyone else does.Key Lime Lee wrote:I imagine it's a lot like speeding - don't be the guy going twice as fast as everyone else or you're going to get singled out.

And I'm a kinder gentler monkey because of it. Perhaps, if given another chance, Gumby might be as well. And if he's not, then he gets the boot permanently. I don't see why this is such a problem for everyone.Key Lime Lee wrote:Your humping self is back, isn't it?nycparrothead wrote:But if you get caught speeding you get a speeding ticket or at the worst ya lose your license for a while. But unfortunately, nyc, not all monkies are kinder and gentler after being "scolded" (or whatever you want to call it).nycparrothead wrote:And I'm a kinder gentler monkey because of it. A user doens't necessarily have to be put on "official probation" to be given "another chance." It would not be appropriate for me to go into details of conversations I have had w/ any particular user, BUT: just b/c he may not have been put on a "30 day suspension" (and I don't know WHAT his status is, if you're curious), doesn't mean a user has not been given mulitple opportunities to improve his/her posting behavior.nycparrothead wrote:If Gumby isn't given another chance we'll just never know will we...phjrsaunt wrote:But unfortunately, nyc, not all monkies are kinder and gentler after being "scolded" (or whatever you want to call it).

Good point, but some of us are just really stupid and don't learn until someone puts the hammer down. I only know this cause I was that stupid.phjrsaunt wrote:A user doens't necessarily have to be put on "official probation" to be given "another chance." I can honestly say, I've had some AWESOME threads deleted here. The old-timers would remember the "DGP" threads. Eventually they were just deleted. We tried to re-start them once nd they were deleted again. I never once asked for an explanation, whined, complained or griped about it. It took me all of about .002 seonds to get over it.nycparrothead wrote:
No, but it would bug you. And you'd miss talking to the people here everyday and you'd want a second chance or at least an explanation. Tell me I'm wrong.
It's a Jimmy Buffett site. I have REAL problems that "bug" me. Getting a thread or a post deleted is so insignificant.
I'm also REALLY sure that if I got banned....I'd be able to put 2 'n 2 together and figure out why.

Ahhh..the DGP thread. The stuff of LEGENDS. Couldn't agree w/ ya more, SA. Guess it's just us moderators "ganging up" on everyone else.sailingagain wrote:I can honestly say, I've had some AWESOME threads deleted here. The old-timers would remember the "DGP" threads. All I know is that he's never been banned before...phjrsaunt wrote:Do you KNOW that he has NOT been given any other "chances?"nycparrothead wrote:If Gumby isn't given another chance we'll just never know will we...phjrsaunt wrote:But unfortunately, nyc, not all monkies are kinder and gentler after being "scolded" (or whatever you want to call it).

I appreciate where you're coming from, nyc. Truly I do. But remember that every coin has two sides, and you can only see the side that presents itself. Crummy analogy, I'm afraid. I'll try to come up w/ something better.nycparrothead wrote:All I know is that he's never been banned before...phjrsaunt wrote:Do you KNOW that he has NOT been given any other "chances?"nycparrothead wrote:If Gumby isn't given another chance we'll just never know will we...phjrsaunt wrote:But unfortunately, nyc, not all monkies are kinder and gentler after being "scolded" (or whatever you want to call it).

yea - there was a couple of word association threads that were deleted right in the middle of them - right as I was posting my word. They were started up again and deleted.
And there is also the appearance of threads being deleted maybe because a moderator didn't like the content of the thread - the Gumby thread that was in the social area for example. I never saw a blatant violation of the rules and I was lurking thru it quite regularly. If therads are deleted because of bandwidth issues why not delete older inactive thread from say 2 years ago?
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
