I'm disappointed the thread got deleted, because now I have to write out all my reasons for why I agree with the ban again! j/k But I do have one last comment before I forget about him altogether...

Hey- I know Gumby made some friends, and I believe he was good to them. I also know that if I saw the people that I consider to be my friends on this board, act in the manner that Gumby did towards people... let's just say they wouldn't be my friend anymore. Just because someone is nice to you, does not necessarily mean they are an okay dude to everyone else. Gumby was incredibly cruel-sprited to some people here...not simply mean, but downright cruel. He bordered on abusive in many of his comments and responses, and he always tried to make it personal! He tried to hit below the belt with his insults! That's just wrong... but yet, he is the kind of person that relished doing so! Sure, he'd turn around and rally support from others and he got a lot of it...but that doesn't make what he did or said okay!

Anyone that intentionally and maliciously directs personal derogatory comments based on race, gender, sexuality, etc. to other individuals in posts on this board on a regular basis should not be here.


And cliques!?!? Come on! Get over it! That joke is old and tired...

Agreed. But even you, Tommy, don't cross the line of making direct personal insults towards people with the sole purpose to hurt. (unless in obvious jest ) I don't think we all have to be superficially nice to each other all the time... I'm not going to pretend that I do. But, there is a basic human decency limit to where people should go with their commentary... when someone pulls out the nasty language and derogatory remarks with the intention to hurt and cut deep, then that's not cool... even if that person is cordial and friendly to other people.

I don't know if this was directed towards me after I made a post saying I met him and he seemed like a nice guy. Let me clarify, I met him for about 5 min or so my first impression was good. I probably read less than 25% of his posts and the ones I did read for the most part were borderline abusive and personal. I used to wonder how he got away with the stuff he wrote but it is not my site, I don’t make the rules so if it is OK with the decision makers here it is OK with me. After meeting him I was somewhat shock as he is nothing like I thought he would be, from the stuff he wrote and the abuse he gave to others. I always envisioned him being a big guy so when I met him and saw he was about 5 feet tall (give or take a few inches) about 140 pounds or so, I was somewhat shocked that this was the same guy making posts trying to instigate fights. Somehow I doubt he runs his mouth to people’s faces the same way he did on the boards.
We never had any problems online and the 5 minute conversion we had @ Fenway was cordial so I have nothing personal against him. But I think overall him being gone will make allot of people happy.

Ann I hate to bring up old stuff that has already been resolved but now I just have to. When you and I had our issues about a year ago you sent me some pretty nasty hurtful pm's calling me names that were like a dagger sticking in me. The only difference in what you did and what Gumby did was that you did it via pm and not for the whole board to see. So in reality you were, at that time, just as guilty of being mean spirited and malicious as you say Gumby was. Our mutual friends knew what was going on and one of our friends told me to take a break from the cafe - were you told that?? I left the cafe at that time and since that time I rarely post in the cafe for that very reason. I was so hurt that this friend took sides as this friend is a moderator and should have remained neutral when we BOTH should have been told to take a break from and step back. This is just a prime example that there is a clique here and for you to say that it is a joke just show that some people have blinders on towards the clique because they are a part of the clique. There's more than one clique here at BN too - that's just a fact of life not only in children but in adults as well. For anyone to expect that their "friends" should not like someone that was rude and mean to them is also being childish and cliquish. I hold no anomosity towards the person that sided with you and told me to leave but from your statement had the shoe been on the other foot you would have and that person wouldn't be your friend today. It looks like a clique, acts like a clique, smells like a clique - it is a clique - period.

As far as Gumby is concerned. Yes he was abrasive to some people who were abrasive also abrasive to others. The times that he was abrasive to the few that were basically meek people I do not agree with either. Like Sam said John liked Gumby and John was a very good judge of character. I got to know Matt very well thru John's illness and death and saw a completely different side of him that only a few care to even consider. Matt is coming to my wedding and if his being there keeps any of my other friends from coming to the wedding oh freaking well - that just shows that they weren't good friends to begin with.

I'm not saying I agree with everything that Matt has done or said by any means and he knows that because I've told him but it hasn't effected our friendship at all. Because Matt was banned by insulting people of the "non existant clique" shows that there is in fact a clique here. Like I said - there's more than one too.
