For anyone to expect that their "friends" should not like someone that was rude and mean to them is also being childish and cliquish. I hold no anomosity towards the person that sided with you and told me to leave but from your statement had the shoe been on the other foot you would have and that person wouldn't be your friend today. It looks like a clique, acts like a clique, smells like a clique - it is a clique - period.
As far as Gumby is concerned. Yes he was abrasive to some people who were abrasive also abrasive to others. The times that he was abrasive to the few that were basically meek people I do not agree with either. Like Sam said John liked Gumby and John was a very good judge of character. I got to know Matt very well thru John's illness and death and saw a completely different side of him that only a few care to even consider. Matt is coming to my wedding and if his being there keeps any of my other friends from coming to the wedding oh freaking well - that just shows that they weren't good friends to begin with.
I'm not saying I agree with everything that Matt has done or said by any means and he knows that because I've told him but it hasn't effected our friendship at all. Because Matt was banned by insulting people of the "non existant clique" shows that there is in fact a clique here. Like I said - there's more than one too.

First of all, trust me, Gumby
never personally hurt my feelings... as I've mentioned before, I'm not hyper-sensitive to his crap. But, I was continuously disgusted at how he attacked other people and how he would consistently throw low blows attempting to get the upper hand in an argument. Also, as I've mentioned before, I don't mind pointing out the bully... and I surely don't mind standing up to the bully, even if each of his insults aren't directed specifically at me. The dude simply had no couth. When he was miserable (which was nearly always) he wasn't satisfied and wouldn't stop until everybody was as agitated and miserable as he was. And even when he was happy, he only would be cordial to a certain few while being nasty to most others. And trust me, I did my share of rolling my eyes and moving on, but soon enough there he would be again showing up at opportune times simply to spew the same old crap over and over and over and over again.
Once again and finally,
I know he has friends here and I know he is good to many of you. I don't think he is the worst person in the world. You don't need to defend him anymore based on the loyalty he shows to you. That's cool and I appreciate that. In both of these threads though, still no one has come up with an excuse for his racist, mysoginist and homophobic statements and overall attitude..... are you all saying that kind of stuff is okay? Just because he's a "nice guy" means it's okay for him to make derogatory comments to women or other races? I've never criticized him as a human being... I've criticized his words, attitude, sentiment and intent.

BOR- I was not making any references to your posts.
Connie- don't get me wrong here. You and I are fine. But, as you may have noticed I don't discuss any issues we might have had in the open. As I never once discussed anything via pm with anyone, besides you. I didn't need to.
The statement I made about cliques was simply that it's old and tired. Not a good excuse for people to complain about how unfairly they are treated around here anymore.

Well, all this talk about Gumby's moral character has made me forget what it is that I'm really opposed to here.
I read some of the things that led to Gumby's banning and can't say I completely disagree with the fact that he was banned. (ie - Jim's board, Jim's rules) However, it just seems that a warning should have been given (I've talked to him and no formal warning from JIm was given) or he should be banned for 30 days and allowed one more chance. If he continued down the same path then he'd be gone for good. Why wasn't this done? Probably because Jim doesn't have time to keep track of who's banned and how many days before they can come back etc. He just banned him and washed his hands of the whole thing cause his personal life doesn't allow him the time to follow this board like he should. Well that's all fine and good, but if he really doesn't have time to run this board, then maybe he shouldn't be trying to do it. If I owned a business and had no time to put into it, I'd sell the business, not just make snap judgements and fire people without taking the time to investigate the matter and come up with another solution. Herein lies the problem. I'm sure that some one is going to read this and go running to Jim and tell him that I said it. I just hope that Jim will respect my right to have an opinion on the subject, even if he disagrees with it.

I have never ever heard Matt just off the wall make a derogatory comment to a woman in general. He has talked about songs that made derogatory comments regarding women but I liked those songs too so it didn't bother me nor did I see any reason for any woman of this board to take it as a personal attack. What I have heard is him speak to some women exactly the same as he would another guy - he treated them as an equal. In today's world when women want equality on all issues - Gumby has replied to women the same as he would a man.
As far as his making deragoratory comments about homosexuals or people of other races he knows I have black friends and homosexual friends and he knows my feelings about that as we've discussed it one on one. I live in the south where racism is more prevalant from all sides - maybe that's your battle but it's not mine.
Like Shane said this is a internet message board. It does appear you're taking this too personal and trying to dictate the tone and content of the board IMHO.

The statement about the Cliques being old and tired.. well there is truth in it..perhaps it is because the truth hurts and the constant denials of it are what is old and tired.
It never was an excuse. It is ONE reason. It happens ALOT in here.As Connie said they do exist, when one looks at the situation with trully open eyes, they will see...
Gumby was open and honest and not politically correct at all...You say he is mean spirited.... perhaps he has a wicked sense of humor...perhaps he was hurting for some reason and that is the only way he knows to express his pain...Did you care enough to ask him, before you passed judgement on him? Was your response to him, considered an attack by him or him?
Gumby is entiled to his views just as everyone else is.You don't have to like them anymore than anyone has to like yours,mine, or anyone elses.
I can agree he used improper language at times...
people have done it in here and elsewhere but when he did it, in order to keep the room with the proper rating PG-13 or whatever it is, WHY wasn't it edited for content to keep it at that rating, and explained to him it is one of the rules in here and is a standard everyone needs to go by in order to mantain the rating??
AND APPLY THAT RULE TO EVERYONE!
After all there are over 3,000 ways to tell someone to "Go BLEEP themselves!", and a lot of those ways the person will say "Thank you." whan you part from them.
It is not for me to pass judgement on Gumby's views when he is not here to defend them...He never expressed any of those views to me. He did NOT rally his firends together and ask us to defend him in anyway.
I had enough of seeing him slammed and abused and attacked while he cannot defend himself.
