Well Pete Rose knew that there were strict penalities he could face for gambling and he choose to continue.

With steroid use there's no incentive to stop because there is no penality so why should they stop.

I know it's not fair but until MLB takes some decent action it will continue.

MLB doesn't have much to do with determining whether or not players are tested for steroids. The player's union has to agree to it and they've resisted testing for years. I think the PR damage will force the union to enact stiffer testing and penaties for usage though... I hope.

It's funny how the Yankees want to get out from under Giambi's contract. The same Yankees who used to have Steve Howe, Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry, cocaine addicts, playing for them. The same Yankees who hired Billy Martin, an alcoholic, 5 different times to manage the team. But none of those guys had $80 million coming to them. Yankee pride my a$$.

Aren't Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden up fpr the Hall of Fame? A couple of class acts.

The only way Strawberry and Gooden will ever get into the Hall of Fame is if they buy a ticket.

no incentive?how about the fact that it's illegal?

yes it's illegal but the league/union dosn't treat it as an illegal substance with their stance that you have to be caught taking it 5 times before you're in big time trouble. The first few times you're caught taking it the penality is pretty much just a slap on the hand. That's why players have no incentive to not use steroids - they know if they are caught the league penality is not going to be too severe

so dont bother letting the league deal with it,let the law handle it and put them in jail.then they wont be able to play.

tommcat, i'm afraid we may see the law involved. Congress is going to look into it. I could think of about 100 better things that congress could do.

the law may in the end be involved with it what with congress considering looking into it but when you consider of all the major athletic sports baseball has the most relaxed stance on steroids then one can also expect the players to push the rules as much as they can - illegal or not.
