Yummmm! I like this thread. You guys have named some great places. Been to quite a few of them. This is a good thread to copy and paste for future trips.

Jahfin...next time you come to ACLfest, try Baby Acapulco right next to Chuy's on Barton Springs Road. There is a new one going in where Bahama Breeze used to be on Stonelake. I really miss Bahama Breeze as they are always a sure thing. Of course, you must go to Shady Grove on Barton Springs, run by Chuy's. Live music ...playing OKOM! It's an old RV park and the bathroom is actually in an old Airstream.

For Mexican, Pappasito's can't be beat for decor, food, and those fantastic margarita waves!! ~~~^~~~^~~~ They have great outdoor dining.

We can never travel Hwy 90 on Gulf Coast without stopping at a favorite little place called White Cap Seafood in Gulfport, MS

While in New Orleans, even with all the great cuisine, I honestly can NEVER skip the Camellia Grill. They serve the best chocolate pecan pie ever and the service is unique. Tujaque's is also special with an old-world charm.

Gruene, Texas has the oldest dance hall in Texas and a wonderful place called the Gristmill. Can you imagine outdoors in the trees above the Guadalupe River or in an old stone, glass, and wood dining area with 5 or more fireplaces...great for all seasons? Tortilla soup's the best I've ever had. Catch JJW and many more Texas artitsts at the hall or just drop in for a beer and some dominoes with the locals.

My absolute favorite place ever...Blue Heaven Rendezvous any day, any time!

Our getaway-to-the-beach-in-Texas place...Virginia's on the Bay in Port Aransas, where I got turned on to Buffett when it was called Tortuga Flats. You can eat out on the water and gaze across the bay to see the Lydia Ann Lighthouse at the inlet to the Gulf of Mexico. It doesn't get any better at the coast. It's right by Shorty's, the place that Larry Joe Taylor sings about.

In my hometown, Toscana Artisan Bakery and Bistro. Eventhough in a small shopping area, it has beautiful outdoor dining.

I have a question about a New Orleans restaurant. In the Coastal Confession video, Jimmy is standing out under a sign for Mother's Restaurant singing "I Will Play for Gumbo."

I read about it online and it says it's one of the best po'boy places ever! Any opinions from anyone who's been there?

Image

<<<The signature PO boy is the 'Ferdi Special' - a combination of baked ham, roast beef, debris (the roast beef which falls in into the gravy in the oven), shredded cabbage and condiments including Creole mustard.>>>

i'll have to agree with this though . . .. i can't possibly see a chain restaurant being the best restaurant . . . . local restaurants or mini-chains (like Spago, Wolfgang Puck's restaurant) are always the best

I am grateful to live where the only "chains" of large or mini proportion are limited to McDonalds/Burger King etc.

Rest of the country are full of one off unique restaurants .... and my street is full of many great restuarants.

I like the Mary Ellen Hotel near my place - It serves GREAT schnitzels ... my favourite is the Schnitzel Mary Ellen - Veal schnitzel with a creamy bacon and cheese and spring onion sauce on top .......

(and I go there to the Mary Ellen , to have the Schnitzel Mary Ellen, with my friend Mary Ellen - true - tho she has something else  )
