I'm not sure if I have figuredout this quote and reply thing yet, but I am going to give it a try. I agree with you, DsilCaribe, on Cameron Mitchell's places except for one "M's" in the MIra Nova Bldging downtown. Wonderful atmosphere, awesome bar, great service, food is adequate for the price. Love Capcity Diner, (chocolate cake to die for), Martini's in the Short North, Cameron's in Lynworth is nice, but noisy. Both Fish Markets and Steak Houses are great. J Alexanders off 23N just off of 270 is a favorite of mine, but Bucca di Beppo is too comercialized (sp) and too loud, something That Martini's can get to be, unless you request to be seated in the back. Have you ever been to Lindy's in German Village or G MIchaels on 3rd in German Village. Columbus, Oh has some great restaurants. If you want Italian, go to Moretti's on Sawmill rd. It is one of the finest Italilan restaurants around, & I have lived around.

Hey RinglingRingling, noticed that you mentioned the Clarmont in Columbus. Great place, great menu, great food and great bar. I love it but the husband prefers Lindy's. Ever been to the Old Mohawk to eat? quaint and great bartenders. Try to go there on Sunday's after a Clippers's game. Where is Adriatico's and what kind of food is it?

My favorite restaurant would be the Safehouse in Milwaukee WI. It's a prohibition style place with a secret password with the door being a swinging bookcase, a secret exit, an alibi phone booth where you can play different special effect sounds in the background like typewriters, screeching car horns, machine gun fire, etc. It's a very fun place with some of the friendliest staff around.

I like The Chart House in Malibu.

For local color, though, you cannot beat Johnny Cace's in Longview, Texas.

I also like Papa's in Humble. Molly and I meet there every time I go to Houston, so it's special.

Best food I ever had in my life was in a small family owned restaurant on a hill top right outside of Athens, Greece. Thirty years ago, and I can still taste every morsel. *Sigh*

The only one in OH for which I don't have the fridge magnet...

and I have heard that the Florentine is supposed to be pretty good for Italian food as well. Have yet to try that one; might have to make that week before New Year's "Dinner at Spiro's AND The Florentine" Week.

Have not been to the Old Mohawk; although it is just around the corner (sorta) from the pipe/cigar shop I work in. Also have never actually eaten in the Thurman Cafe, although that is going to probably be rectified by New Year's Day... :D

Adriatico's is pizza. Incredible pizza. Think they have a couple "Best in the City" trophies/awards. Off Neill on 10th near the Nursing College and down from the Jesse Owens bldg. at OSU.

conched wrote:Jahfin...next time you come to ACLfest, try Baby Acapulco right next to Chuy's on Barton Springs Road. There is a new one going in where Bahama Breeze used to be on Stonelake. I really miss Bahama Breeze as they are always a sure thing. Of course, you must go to Shady Grove on Barton Springs, run by Chuy's. Live music ...playing OKOM! It's an old RV park and the bathroom is actually in an old Airstream.

Gruene, Texas has the oldest dance hall in Texas and a wonderful place called the Gristmill. Can you imagine outdoors in the trees above the Guadalupe River or in an old stone, glass, and wood dining area with 5 or more fireplaces...great for all seasons? Tortilla soup's the best I've ever had. Catch JJW and many more Texas artitsts at the hall or just drop in for a beer and some dominoes with the locals.
Thanks for the recommendations. I've actually been to Shady Grove but we didn't have dinner there. I saw Guy Clark and Verlon Thompson perform the same week as the ACL Fest last year. Nice place but the acoustics left a lot to be desired. Some other places I've enjoyed dining at are Stubbs BBQ and Threadgills (used to be the Armadillo World Headquarters). There was also a nice bbq place outside of town on a river where you could feed the ducks that was very good.

I haven't made it to Gruene yet but I did get to visit New Braunfels once and had a very enjoyable lunch there on the way to San Antonio.

At first I was thinking The Salt Lick, but I don't recall ducks. Onion Creek does run through there.

I've never been to Lindy's in German Village because i live in Northern Ohio but i'll agree that Columbus is home to the best dining in ohio without a doubt. Look at Easton and all that has to offer .. . they must have like 25 restaraunts. A freind of mine lives right off Sawmill rd, i'll have to ask her if she's been to Moretti's.

Sailfish Marina . . . best place for breakfast in the entire world! I love it, its good for lunch too. The view is picturesque, its nesecary that we have a window seat. Also, i love how its open air. Wow, thats the good life! You know that they actually considered getting rid of that restaraunt and putting up condos there! When i heard that i was more p*ssed off that i've ever been, but i guess enough people complained and they kept it.

tequilatom, have you ever been to Panama Hatties in North Palm Beach? It's a great restaraunt right on the intercoastal and its got a great bar too.
