Yea..thick skins are convenient for people who don't want to be responsible. The remarks were highly inappropriate to make to a 13 year old, regarding his sister no less. It is called respect and has nothing to do with the thickness of anyone's skin

I didnt see the comments...but have you looked at 'the 13yr olds' quotes..Im thinking the 'eat more beaver' comment is not exactly appropraite on hos part either...

I wasn't here when the offending comments were made but I do have something to say about them
We are adults here and as adults it is our responsibility to check our comments when we know that there are children present on the board. It's just the right thing to do. Aparently from reading this thread and the apology thread some of the offending remarks were made by adults that have children. Some of you aren't parents but you may be some day. How would you, as a parent, like for anyone to make off color comments to your 13 year old child??
I don't care who said what or anything like that but for anyone to have said anything off color is simply WRONG.

Surprise, surprise...
HEY!
I even thought this got way out of hand for a thread that was centered
around a newby almost-keet's sister, and my skin's a lot thicker than many here.
You guys need to go back and read
rule #1 of your Man Code and if you can,
try to understand the "spirit" of said rule, especially when it pertains to our
younger phreinds here. (And yes, I did read the thread as it was being posted,
and yes, ST.S's sister is a very attractive young lady. It's a shame her
lovely appearance attracted a bunch of lewd comment this time though.
Do you guys really want ST.S and his family to regard this board as one
that is set up for nothing but rude pedophiles?)

I thought the term pedophile was reserved for adults who prey on those below the legal age of consent? The young lady in question was 18. Tasteless? Possibly. Pedophilia? Nope. You really ought to do a bit more research before you start tossing around such strong words, Des.

I never saw confirmation of her age... But besides that, since when does
the turn of a single calendar day make lewd comments about a young
woman acceptable,
especially in the presence of their younger siblings?
Just because she may actually be of an age that legally excludes her from
the classification of "child" doesn't mean you need to used graphic sexual
imagery in a discussion about her with her younger brother. (This is, of
course, unless he's her pimp.)
(And I'm still waiting to see that "official" definition of pedophilia... Larry?)

From dictionary.com:
ped·o·phil·i·a
The act or fantasy on the part of an adult of engaging in sexual activity with a child or children.
As for confirmation of the age:
ST. SOMEWHERE wrote:, My 18 year old sister and I (SOBER) were the most polite and well spoken out of all the people that asked question (From the ones that we could here)

And the definitiion of "child"?? I can't find one with an specific age
limit. If you're 60 and she's 18, she's a child!
Besides, guys, I never accused you of
being pedophiles... just of
coming across as pedophiles.
Right? Right!
(And rude ones, at that! I actually know a very polite official
sexual predator.

It's kinda scary.)

Oh, I see - then she could never be allowed to marry...or join the armed forces...or vote

Well, I just figure that graphically discussing "banging" a girl young
enough to be your grandaughter in front of her 13 year old brother is
extremely beyond what should be posted here. And I was hoping you
guys knew that too.
If the female posters here enjoy that kind of talk about themselves
(you know who you are, girls

) that's no big deal to me. But if they're
not a member of that sorority, you guys need to
exercise some manners, at least in front of "company". JMHO

Des, I have no problem with your protest over what was said. I didn't see the posts in question, and to be honest, I really don't care much either way. What I did take offense to was you tossing around the term 'pedophile' like that. As far as I'm concerned, there is no worse crime committed by the human race, and as such, if you're gonna reference that term in relation with anyone, you best make damn sure you got your facts straight first.

He says he's 13. He's proven that he's the kid who asked for the guitar pick, and he looked about 13. That's good enough for me.
As far as being tough-skinned, I think he's doing pretty well for his age. For one thing he had the courage to ask JB for a guitar pick in front of a live national audience, and he was very polite about it too. He comes here to share the experience and gets blasted right out of the gate, then people start hitting on his sister. It's no wonder he's talking about leaving, and that's a shame because he seems like a great kid.

The song isn't directed toward his sister, there is a big difference there.

Yeah, it's just about the same thing.

Just a hunch here, but I'd be willing to bet that it was your comment that may have sent the kid packing. Considering the situtation, it was a pretty twisted thing to say...

You say that skins need to be thicker, and get the facts straight, then you say you didn't even
SEE the posts in question, and you don't care about what was said???

I saw what was said and done, and I appreciate Des speaking out in protest.
You just wanted to jump in the phray with your rude comments when someone's feelings were hurt. Apologies have been made and subjects have been changed, but still I have to marvel at some Parrotheads' unsavory behavior here...
And even going ahead and repeating the comments that were offensive. Also, it's a shame people have to look at their post count going down to see in surprise that an apology may be in order. Who checks their post count every time they log on and off???

BTW, some kids really think a beaver is an animal that chops down trees. I know that's what my kid would think.
Okay, I'm jumping back out of the phray now....
