What they aren't telling you is that he wanted that finger cut off so he would never have to wear the ring again.

How can you ask a doctor to cut your finger off so as not to damage the ring and then misplace the ring you were saving? :roll:

Yeah, it sounded like the medical staff misplaced the ring.... :-?

On a similar note, if you're assigned to a ship, it's a dangerous place to wear a ring at all. Lots of folks who choose to wear their ring in that environment have it notched on the inside so that if if catches on something, the ring will break instead of tearing off the finger.

If I were the young man's senior, I wonder if I might have been tempted to cold cock him, knock him out, and let the docs make the best decision! (j/k...... sorta..... :o )
