PDA input?

I'm looking to start using a PDA to become better organized in 2005. Currently, I am looking at the Dell Axim X50v as the system of choice. It's definitely more than I need at this time, but think it will save money in the long run as I'll want more "bells and whistles" within a year and with this system, I'll already have them! Here's a link to the handheld I'm looking at....

Anyone have any experience with this system or any others? It's a major purchase for me and I'm looking for some suggestions or input before I make the dive.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a Tungsten E and love it. Not sure about all the specifications, but it is a little cheaper than the one you are looking at, and it does everything I need and more.

I don't know what you need it for, but I just got one for $25! It's a Sharp Wizard Organizer. It has 1.5 megs of memory. All I need it for is to store telephone numbers and keep a calendar for me. It has a bunch of other stuff. I got it at Office Max. The only benefit I saw of having the others was to like store music and stuff, and that would have cost me an extra $200 or so.

I actually just ordered an x50 yesterday, so at least I know I'm not alone. From everything I read about it, it should definitely suit my needs. Plus, it is what our IT department recommends and provide support for.

I work with a guy who has the x30 and has been very happy with it.

You might also check out the offering of iPaqs on eBay too. If you go with an older model, say a 5400 series, you still get the bluetooth/802.11x connectivity, but you are not paying the price of the Dell brand new.

I have an older iPaq with fewer bells and whistles, and they work just fine.

I have the x30. Not bad, but I didn't have to pay for it. I love the fact that its Windows based. I can sync with Outlook and open Word and Excel documents. However, there are quite a few websites that the PDA can't handle. Also, the since its WiFi there has to be a wireless service available. This makes it virtually impossible to access my corporate e-mail because the SMTP server is always different.

If you want to have your Outlook contacts, check your calendar, open Microsoft files, or play solitare the Dell system is pretty good. If you want to have constant access to e-mail, you'll need something more similar to a Blackberry.

I've looked at the Blackberry's before, but wasn't real impressed with them....they seemed difficult to use and some reviews I read were not overly positive.

I forgot to mention in my original post....one of the biggest things I definitely want is a system that is bluetooth enabled. I have a phone with bluetooth capabilities (Sony Ericsson T610) and although I haven't really used it....this feature should assist me in synching things between the PDA and phone. (I'm technically challenged.....someone please correct me if I'm wrong!)

Thanks for the input...I'm going to research this greatly over the weekend and appreciate any more input I can gain before that time.

I love my Blackberry. It's my PDA, my Bluetooth and cell phone, all in one. I'm always in touch with the office and am able to easily retrieve emails and send responses. The only issue is with attachments, I can't open them.
