Just wondering...used to be called a preview but why is it now called a trailer?

From a cinema historian:

" Back in the days when most film programmes were presented as double features, the piece of film advertising a forthcoming attraction was
originally attached
by the cinema projectionist to the end of the reel that contained the B feature or supporting film,
so that it was shown between it and the main feature—so trailing the supporting film.

These days, as you say, when cinemas usually show just the one feature film, the previews of forthcoming attractions have to be run
before it to ensure a captive audience, so making the name puzzlingly inaccurate.

It’s more of a technological fossil than a linguistic one."

I thought the Oompa Loompa(s) was actually pretty damn funny!
When you see it, you'll know what I mean 8)
This is not your childhood Wonka movie, and honestly, I was skeptical going in.

Afterwards, I was pretty well satisfied that I had seen a pretty good movie "re-telling" :P

I thought the movie worked despite Johnny Depp's Wonka.
...very, very weird.

Thanks, LB, guess I'm just getting old, things getting renamed bug me. It's always been a preview to me, seeing clips of a movie advertising the movie before I see it. Never heard it called a trailer until recently.
