New Orleans is the craziest place I have ever been. It seems that it is complete lawlessness there. By the end of my trip I was completly desensitized to boobs and girls making out (sounds crazy but you will see this non-stop). I was there for 3 nights and I dont know if I could handle much more. I didnt even go during Mardi Gras so I cant even imagine how crazy it is.

Tips:

1. Start out the night with a hurricane or two at Pat O'briens but beware drink too many of these deceptively tasty drinks and it will be an early night.

2. There is a bar that serves a drink called the Hand Grenade, get one of those, it claims to be the strongest drink on Bourbon Street.

3. The best bars I remember were Utopia, Bourbon St. Blues House (that name could be wrong it was a hazy weekend), Pat O'Briens, Cats Meow, Big Bad Wolf

4. Go to the Three Legged Dog, which is not on Bourbon St and in easy walking distance and see if the picture of my three legged dog Elmo(RIP) is still on the wall. They also have a 2 for 1 happy hour between 3 and 6 AM.

One quick lesson I learned from a New Orleans' native... You can't "go to Mardi Gras" just like you can't "go to Christmas."

They take the celebration pretty serious down there. So be careful and have a great time!!! :D

But I have gone to Times Square to see the ball drop on New Year's Eve. Once. And I'll never do it again.

I've been invited by friends who live down there to come for MG or a Buffett concert. I have visted once for a Rolling Stones concert when my brother lived there. I really should take advantage of the offer since it's relatively close ...

There are too many people jammed in a small area. They have you penned in behind metal police barricades and you pretty much have to get there in the early afternoon and stay all day to get a good spot. The year I went it wasn't that cold, I think it was in the 40's, but the weather can get pretty nasty in NY this time of year. And if you're not within a couple of blocks of the building where the ball is you might not have a very good view. In the past there weren't many tall buildings in that part of Times Square but they've built a couple of new office buildings right near the building where they drop the ball so it could block your view.

Been to Mardi Gras "Lite", the weekend before actual Mardi Gras. I have to go back, I absolutely love New Orleans. A good web site is www.nola.com ..... go to the "Mardi Gras" forums, or some of the links. I did a lot of research online before we went and really got a lot out of it. So many things to do, so many restaurants, so many bars. Definitely don't miss going on the street cars through the Garden District, getting a Voodoo Daquiri at Lafitte's Blacksmith bar, going to the "Rock 'n' Bowl" for some great music. Have www.nola.com or www.nolalive.com send you the little New Orleans travel guide magazine. And take more money than you ever thought possible that you'd need!!! Don't show your boobs, that's for college drunk naive girls. Or old drunk desperate wimmen. Or middle-aged drunk Parrotheadladies that regret it. :o Not from personal experience, you understand....it was too cold when we went to N.O. for that stuff. :o Mardi Gras "lite" is a better way to see the holiday the first time. THe crowds can scare anybody on the actual day. And don't fall in the BUB like I did (that stands for Beer-Urine-Barf, the stuff all over Bourbon Street. :x YUK. The Margaritaville Cafe and Store there are good. Don't venture north of the edge of the French Quarter alone.....VERY SCARY bad section. Don't go very far past Lafitte's on Bourbon Street unless you want to see very beautiful ladymenses with boobs AND packages! It's mostly gay down there. And try the Lucky Dogs (yum) and the Abita beers (yum)!!! :P :P :P
