I haven't been to most of those sites. Just realize that any of them that are still trying to say that the Navy accidentally shot down TWA800 (as my brother believes  ) are out to lunch.... Why? Because you could NEVER shut up that many sailors. One of those kids making about $20K a year for working his/hre butt off would have, by now, sold their story to the National Enquirer.
A viewpoint that I would never have considered, but what you say make a lot of sense, Jen.

I never believed they were covering up for us because of that very reason. I believed the "40 knot boat" theory, though.

It was very, very interesting reading. I believe DeMille acutally interviewed someone (or several someones) who were (1) in the harbor that night and (2) knew what they were seeing.

What I have read on the subject is scary.....

Can't wait to read this book; I know it'll probably scare the crap outta me.... :o

I was going to try to wait for the book to come out in paperback, but I'm not sure I want to wait.

Hello readers - I missed you. I actually tried to post twice form Crete but got the "Sorry this page cannot be displayed" message. I had a marvelous trip and wanted to share 2 highlights:
-a beach resort called Kusadasi in Turkey where I sat on my hotel room balcony with Orion and the Big Dipper sparkling overhead, JB on my CD player and a nightcap in hand. I drank to all the wonderful BNers, knowing it was 5 O'Clock for at least some of you
-sitting across the aisle on the plane home from a guy with a Beach Odyssey Tour cap. We started chatting & I found out he was flying home from Iraq for two weeks with wife & family - he works for a company that does air conditioning systems for the military in Mosul. He said his wife won't let him go to JB shows because it's an outing strictly for "girlfriends". I told him to tell her about BN & to check it out himself!

Didn't do much reading :-? but will get started on Blue Lonesome soon.
Hope everybody is well.

Welcome home, Nicki!

I'm jealous! I haven't taken the time to read lately, but will try to read Blue Lonesome. It's by the bedside calling me each night. :)

Fins up everyone. I've also missed BN. (It WAS broke down, Nicki!)

Have actually been out getting quite a few music shows in, such as Todd Snider and Robert Earl Keen. Can't wait for the BUFFETT shows to start again.

Thanks, conched - I wondered about that possibility but I was also having trouble e-mailing Mr. Nicki so I didn't know what was going on. I, too, can hardly wait for the next show - and even though I'm a West Coast concert wimp I'm going to try my best to be in the delightful setlist forum for at least the 1st half. I loved the link to the Arlo N Janis cartoon - very funny!
Glad you've had some good live music experiences :D Take care

Nicki: Sounds like a lovely trip!!!!

I've finished re-reading BLUE LONESOME and found myself amazed that Pronzini hasn't become more well-known. He's really a great storyteller.

Am working on BAIT AND SWITCH . . . Larry Brooks. His first two books were way too dark for me, but this one seems to be starting out okay!!!

Am still reading JUDGMENT DAYS. I knew J. Edgar Hoover was a jerk, but really had no idea just how MUCH of a jerk he was. I think we'll be discovering his machinations for years to come, as files/tapes/correspondence are made available.

Although a bit confusing, we have shared reading a few great READS!

I am sure we are on Blue Lonesome now.

I have to recommend Key Weird. We read that most recently. We have also read Bridge of Birds by Hughart, (don't you just love that name?), Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh, and Florida Roadkill by Tim Dorsey.

Does anyone know for sure what comes after Blue Lonesome?

I don't think we've decided.

We talked about A PARTING GIFT. I've got it on the top of my pile, but haven't started.

Welcome . . . Quiet and Shy . . . conched is right. . .

BRIDGE OF BIRDS was first
GIFT FROM THE SEA
FLORIDA ROADKILL
BLUE LONESOME

are what we've "kinda" done so far. . .

Several others have been mentioned . . . I'm reading non-fiction JUDGMENT DAYS. Just finished NIGHT FALL by Nelson DeMille. Wow!

Also finished WONDER BOYS (hysterical . . .and I think this group would "relate" to it). Am working on BAIT AND SWITCH by an author friend named Larry Brooks. It's not 1/2 bad.

So many books. So little time. *Sigh*

If you have some suggestions, please post 'em. All of us are always looking for a good read.

It will be great to have Quiet and Shy's comments on the books also. I enjoyed the comments on the ASPL Book thread by Q & S.

Going to try to read some of Blue Lonesome tonight yet.

I also pulled out A Parting Gift. I kept thinking of Jimmy's parents the whole time I read that book...especially his father. In fact I read it while traveling in L. A.

Thanks, Conched! Looks like I have some catching up to do. I wandered around Borders yesterday looking for a couple of titles mentioned early in the thread (they sounded so good!) and didn't have much luck. So, I'll have to check out the library or Amazon. Looks like I'll have some good reading for the flight to and from Vegas this next week (I'm sooooo excited!).

One book that I read a couple of years back that just blew me away was Galileo's Daughter by Dava Sobel (non-fiction). It's got some serious science in it, but it's a great story of how progress, history, culture, male/female roles, and traditions of the church are woven together along with letters from the cloistered daughter to her inquisition-facing father. If I were to recommend a book to Jimmy, this is the one I would pick; I think he'd love it (history, the stars, family...).

I was into Blue Lonesome after 3 pages!

Didn't want to put it down, but had to watch the NEWS for a bit and clean house! :)

Turned on some Jerry Jeff Jazz, Billie Holliday's Lady in Satin, and Carly's Film Noir. I love books with music references.

Also, it was nice to have a change of scenery to the desert, although I love my Florida and Texas Hill Country mysteries.

Help me, I went to the book store to get A Parting Gift, but didn't know the author. There were several similiar titles listed so I was confused.

This is the Amazon.com link to A Parting Gift by Ben Erickson.

There are so many memorable things from the book. It is one of those motivational books. It was actually written by a father for his son.

Here is another group of books that looks intriguing!

Lisa Wingate wrote "Tending Roses" that I saw a comment about under the Ben Erickson --A Parting Gift reviews.

Has anyone ever read any of these books?
