I'm aboput 2/3 the way through a biography of former Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill. A little dense, so it probably wasn't the best book that I could have taken on my cruise last week, but so far so good.

I requested that from the library after a friend recommended it - I hope I get it soon.

And thanks, ETP!
I've recommended this book to every reader I know.

Just finished Northern Lights by Nora Roberts. Set it Alaska. Was pretty good. Now am reading River of Lakes, A Journey on Florida's St. Johns River by Bill Belleville. Non-fiction about Florida's longest river (flows south to north). I live about 5 miles from the St. Johns in Volusia County FL.

I read Northern Lights, but I am a big Nora fan. Have you ever met her? Her book signings are great fun.

I just picked up about 50 books from a friend who was heading to Friends of the Library with about 500 books. 50 of them took a detour, but will eventually end up at the Friends of the Library sale. :)

I'm reading Horse Latitudes by Robert Ferrigno. I had never heard of him; he is a lot like Carl Hiaasen, but instead of a Florida setting, it is set in California.

I've never gone back and read books from 10 or so years ago, except with John MacDonald, but these all looked so good. There are lots of Elmore Leonard and James Lee Burke books.

Picked up the new John Berendt (Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) today. It's about Venice. Reviews at amazon aren't all favorable, but I loved Midnight, so I thought I'd give this new one a whirl.

We'll see.

Mr. Mojito is still working on the Truman biography. Says it's outstanding!

I never had much interest in Twain till we visited Hannibal, MO. Now, I have read most of his work.

I'm just about done with "Serpent" by Clive Cussler. This is the first book for Kurt Austin, basically Dirk Pitt's replacement. So far, so good; has the usual Cussler elements, and is a real page-turner. I've managed to get about 3/4 through it in a week, which is a big accomplishement for me.

TDB was the first Woods I could not finish! I was so disappointed. Felt almost like he phoned it in.

The Berendt book is just wonderful. Can't imagine where the negative reviews are coming from . . . :-?

I'd read Huck Finn and half of Following the Equator, but other than that wasn't too familiar with Twain's work. I'm trying to make an active effort to read more of his stuff now.

Reading Twain is an acquired taste, I'm thinking. Like Faulkner. And, he makes you pay attention . . . I'm not used to paying attention when I read fiction, which doesn't say much for today's so-called best-selling authors . . . or my old brain. :D

being a fisherman and while in Key West...I thought I would give Hemmingway a shot with "Old Man and the Sea". If ever read a little Freud, you could make some absolute whacko metaphors come to life.. :D :D
