I was completely blown away by the ending.

Went to the mall Sunday for some Christmas shopping. One of the book stores, B. Dalton, was going out of business and everything west 40% off. So I scooped up 7 Carl Hiaasen books and Tim Dorsey's Cadillac Beach hard back. As I was Checking out the lady asked me if I've read Carl's book Hoot? I said no, and she said it's in the childrens section. She led me to the LAST copy, which I grabbed up. All together, 9 books, was $45 :o :D :D :D

Just finished S IS FOR SILENCE. Sue Grafton.

I love Kinsey Millhone.

The reviewers at amazon and in the press haven't warmed up to this one, but I liked it.

If you're a Kinsey fan, you'll like this. She's one sharp cookie and she really digs deep to solve this one.

Grafton hasn't sold out to Hollywood and promises to retire Kinsey when she finishes "Z". I admire her integrity and she writes with a lot of confidence and style!

I just finished Carl Hiaasen's second kid's book called Flush.

Image

It was a great little book with lots of stuff about environmental issues, parenting, anger management, even a bit about the "d" word. The book really is packed with "stuff."

Noah and Abby's (brother and sister) relationship was such a sweet one. The setting is the Keys.

Egads, I have a lot of catching up to do in this thread. :o

Conched, I really liked Flush too. I'm kinda partial to the environmental theme, so both books really touched me.

I'm currently reading 3 books right now...it kinda depends on what I'm in the mood for.

I bought the Chronicles of Narnia since it has been MANY moons since I first read the series. Bought one big volume for 20 bucks. I'm up to Prince Caspian. This edition is printed in the order they were supposed to be read.

I'm also reading

I love Nancy Drew. I give those books a lot of credit for inspiring my love of reading and traveling...and of mystery. I learned a lot from Nancy. I'm so glad I got my set of dog eared books back from my cousin...and in reading this book about Nancy I find that I'm not the only one who had chocolate smudges on the pages and who read them in the dark when I was supposed to be sleeping.

And this is the other one:

Don't think I'll get thru that one without shedding a few tears....

Watching that footage of the Chalk's Airway aircraft made me think of Night Fall by DeMille, which several of us read and talked about on here a while back.

Now, that is a truly frightening thought.

I've been trying to decide whether to pick this up hardback. I'm a huge EG fan.

I love Kinsey too. I didn't even know this was out yet. Another book that I'll want while it's on hardback.

I always read Sue Grafton, Elizabeth George, Elizabeth Peters and Martha Grimes. I used to love Patrica Cornwell then I got tired of them.

Can't wait to read S is for Silence, I loved all of the other books!

Just finished Greg Iles Blood Money & it was a disturbing story. His Footprints of God was interesting.

My favorite books, just for a laugh are Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series - One for the Money, etc. For me, pure escapism.

Hello and Happy Holidays, BN bookworms. It's fun to see what eveybody's reading these days.

conched, I remember how much I enjoyed Night Fall, which I found out about here.

Ocean City Girl, I'm also a big fan of Elizabeth George and Martha Grimes. Maybe With No One As Witness will be out in paperback soon.

maggiemay56, many people have recommended the Janet Evanovich books to me so I'd better put them on my list to read.

I am almost done with The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman (an attempt to improve my mind, such as it is) but just got the new P.D. James novel, Lighthouse, and can't wait to dive in!

I love Greg Iles. He's got a new one out. TURNING ANGEL.

I agree. FOOTPRINTS OF GOD was very interesting. :D

Have put my name on the list at the library.

ETP, Turning Angel sounds so good. And how I DO love Natchez, Mississippi. I know the book will mention my favorite places like King's Tavern.

Believe it or not, the Ramada Inn is a great place to stay with a magnificent view of the mighty Mississippi, and is right near The Briars House and Gardens (Oh, this IS the reading thread not the travel thread.)

...and the Natchez Trace leads to Mac's Studio, La La Land in Alabama and to Nashville. Will spring ever get here?
