I dont think anyone who lives there or close likes Mardi Gras, at least from what I have heard. I have been the past two years, and I have had a blast. 8)

Sorry your experience wasnt as pleasant.

the city i live in has the second largest mardi gras in the country (next to new orleans). mardi gras in new orleans is very dangerous, and so overridden with people that it takes 45 minutes to walk a city block. not to mention how freakin expensive it is to go to new orleans. the vendors of new orleans hike up prices from their already overpriced products. you'll easily pay 8 dollars for a beer.

houma mardi gras:
1. no chance of being shot or mugged
2. you can walk without being stampeded to the ground
3. no transvestite bars
4. big, fun parades
5. dont have to pay to park you car, then worry about it being stolen
6. drinks are normally priced.
7. REAL cajun food, not that pathetic creole stuff they serve in new orleans and pass off as cajun

new orleans, no thank you
