Key West later this month - What is must see/do?

Post by flipflops »

Of course I've been scowering the internet for ideas, but this will still probably be the best place. I'll have two full days and I want to make the most of it. How are the snorkeling/dolphin/ghost/adventure tours? Where should I eat? Where should I drink? Thanks in advance!

Carve out some time to sit in Hog's Breath and listen to music. If you're there Jan 10-16, Hugo Duarte and the Full Sail Band are not to be missed (10:00PM - 2:00AM each night)!!

Ditto for Captain Tony's.

Blue Heaven for breakfast. Delicious.

Mallory Square for sunset.

Duval Crawl with a cold adult beverage from Fat Tuesday's in hand.

JUST 2 DAYS? NO WAY
Sorry dude but there is no way you will have enough time to do 10% of what you might want to do. I've been 3 times for a total of 17 days, and STILL haven't seen it all. Amazing for a 2x4 mile island

Side has a point.... you CAN'T see and do everything in two days, so don't try. Pick a couple of things that are important to you, and do them. The only real absolutely-must-without-a-doubt-see thing is Duval Street. Beyond that, either just chill out and listen to music, or hit some watersports, or go see Papa Hemingway's house, and save the rest for next time. :D

the idea is NOT to try to do it all in 2 days...i had 4 days a month ago and never got the chance to do half of what i wanted...my highlights:

captain tony's, any time

duval beach club for lunch

blue heaven for breakfast

kellys for dinner

take the trails of margaritaville tour

cheeseburger in paradise at margaritaville (just dont ask the staff about jimmy, they dont know who he is)

the chart room for a quick bee before sunset at mallory square, where you should get the conch fritters from the guy by the cruise ships

the green parrot is really cool

and to save money do ALL your drinking from 4-7 where it is happy hour everywhere and its 2 for 1

BO's for lunch then go to schooners wharf for the afternoon music

if you are REALLY lucky, there is a rumor going around that jimmy will be recording at shrimpboat in late january, early feb

Hi everbody. First time here, first post. Its great to be in good company.

Two days? While I strongly urge an extended stay, the best way to do Key West is take it as it comes. You are on vacation after all.

Here are a few of my favorite spots though.

Capt. Tony's for drinks and good live music.

Hogs Breath to let your friends back home on the internet know your having a good time--- They have a live web cam

Lazy Gecko. They have great pizza. A little saucy for my taste but they make up for it with the way it just slides down your throat. Plus you can get a medium for only $10.75 !

The Blonde Giraffe. Three words. Key Lime Pie.

East Martello Museum. This is the current home of Robert the doll. Remember, he does not like his picture taken. Don't even risk it.

Irish Kevin's. If you are looking for a crowded all out good time. Check it out. Oh I wish I could remember the name of the dude I enjoy watching there. Im sure someone knows. Hes the one who insults the hell out of everyone and chugs a drink every two songs. This place is just crazy insane.

Hemmingway house. Lots of cats. I have never found the penny in the pool though. Has anyone else?

Of coarse Mallory Square for sunset. Take plenty of dollar bills as there are plenty of entertainers down there who depend on the tips for thier only means of money.

Best advice I can give you is rent a bike. There is no reason to drive your car around Key West. Plus it makes finding parking alot easier ! Oh, don't forget to turn your back flashy light on your bike at night. The protecters of Paradise like to give out D.U.I.'s for those who don't.

Peace~

Quint- da penny...

Post by Mike B »

The penny is not "in" the pool. It's right "by" the pool where Papa threw it on the patio, next to the post under a piece of nasty looking glass about 2 inches around. Maybe one of those cats was sitting on the spot!

The hotel is booked and I'm ready to go. Staying at the La Concha Crown Plaza. Looks pretty nice and right on Duval. The trip could be expanded to three days as well. Can't wait!

2 favorite bars: Schooner Wharf and Green Parrot. Good live music at the Parrot on Fri & Sat. Lunch or dinner at Louie's Backyard.
