1) most countries we aid are in no finanacial position to do the same in return.
2) Why do we have to expect anything in return, except a thank you?

It's a fine suggestion, Jen.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:however, back on topic... I have a suggestion....
suppose Jimmy doesn't do a benefit show? what's to keep us from taking the 50-odd dollars (or far more) we would have spent on a ticket, plus whatever we would have spent on our preferred tailgating food and drink, and send it to the relief fund of our choice? (Red Cross or UNICEF come to mind pretty quickly....)
let's do it, people.... do we really need Jimmy to do a benefit concert just so we'll open our wallets?
And I have already contributed to the Red Cross.. I think it would have covered my ticket to Tampa.

Then why not give us some relief out in the middle east. That can be a way of thanking us.SMLCHNG wrote:A Balding Fan wrote: I just want to know why we are the ones who always have to help countries out, when they never help us in return.

No country could recover by itself from a tragedy as bad as this one....and we certainly are not helping them out by ourselves.
The United States government has pledged a total of only $350 million towards relief....while other countries have provided much more (Australia $810 million, Germany $674 million, etc.)
I personally find it embarrassing that we only committed $350 million to help rebuild this area, while we've spent about $150 billion in the war with Iraq.
Frankly, our relief efforts as a country embarass me at this point....fortunately, individuals and organizations are picking up the slack.
Have some compassion, some sympathy, and some class.....don't even attempt to say the U.S. is spending too much money on this cause.

Balding Fan, it sure seems like you are just here to start sh*t. This post was about decent people trying to help out people in need. Yes there are things that need to be done for our troops families, but that isn't what this is about. We as a country have the most, so stands to reason that we should have the most to give. Is this making any sense to you??????A Balding Fan wrote:Then why not give us some relief out in the middle east. We do have other countries aiding us in the efforts there....perhaps not to the extent you desire.....but their are other efforts being done.A Balding Fan wrote:Then why not give us some relief out in the middle east. The big difference here is that we knew what we were getting into when we entered this war. We knew who was on board and who was not. We choose to take on the task.
The victims of this tsunami did not choose to have this disaster hit their country. This was unfortunate natural disaster and it's a big difference from choosing to go to war.
Wars have sides and some countries are typically with you....while others have a dissenting opinion.
However, natural disasters that kill 150,000+ victims should (and fortunately do) pull the world together and everyone should lend as big of a helping hand as possible to assist in recovery.

Entirely two different situations. This is a natural disaster and catastophe. Period.A Balding Fan wrote:Then why not give us some relief out in the middle east. That can be a way of thanking us.

No problem....and sorry for adding political content to this board....I just can't sit back and let comments like those stand alone though....99.9999% of all parrotheads are good people with caring attitudes and I don't want any outsiders visiting this board to get the wrong opinion based upon the comments of one dissenting individual.SMLCHNG wrote:Thank you, Bill. You sending money over there is just supporting them more. Why not let France and Germany give them all the money.

I hope Jimmy does NOT do one. Our country has given enough money over there. Why not do a benefit concert for the familys who have lost loved ones over in the middle east. Those familys only get around $8500 and are TAXED on it too.
THANK YOU.. dont get me wrong we should help. but here in pittsburgh there are SO MANY families and businesses that were flooded in september that still are homeless.

#5 is the one that got to me, too, CG. I feel like throwing up just looking at it. Its like looking at the carcass of some once vibrant animal, now picked to the bones.carolinagirl wrote:Pages 5 on in that "before and after" series you can really see a difference...
