Good hotels near Times Square for under $200.00 a night are tough to come by, especially during the week. Of course it does depend on your expectation and what you deem to be a good hotel. If you are a member of AAA or AARP you can sometimes get fairly decent deals ($220.00 to $250.00) at the Renaissance. Also I have seen the "W" Hotel at Time Squares run some $199.99 specials on their website. Those are about the only places that I would call good and are close to your price range.

Best advice www.priceline.com Capt. Kirk can't be wrong. I paid $75 a night in boston for jimmy's fenway show at $300 a night hotel. If you know exactly the dates you are going use priceline you tell them the area you want to be in and they'll find something. Most 3-4 star hotels can be had for $75 - $100 in major cities barring holidays, etc.

I have stayed at the Marriot Marquis and had a positive experience. I do not know your dates, but when I selected dates (on expedia) at random--weekends and weekdays, the rate at the MM were more than $200--however, there were hotels that seemed to have decent ratings on the Midtown/Times Square area for $200 or less. For some reason I could not access hotelkingdom--but that would be another good resource for you. I have booked hotels through both and have had good experiences.

the New York Helmsley is a great hotel , 42nd and 2 ave, not a far walk to time square, grand central station , the UN and the NY Public Library. The hotel will be right around $200 and for about $229 you can get a really great breakfast buffet package in the hotel restaurant.
