YEs..but the Stones have been playing stadiums for 30 years.......it's what they do.and they're good at it because their sound system is built for stadiums.......the question is will Buffett upgrde to a stadium size wall of soundmsu#1 wrote:Has no one considered the fact that tickets might be hell to get this year, yes I know from experience that they have always been tuff(ive only gotten tickets thru ticketmaster once), but maybe Jimmy wants everyone that wants to go to get in this year. With the success he's had this year that could mean a ton of people. I agree some stadiums have horrible sound, the Silverdome for the George Strait festival was byfar the worst sound Ive ever heard, but Blink 182 at Pine Knob last year was pretty close and its a tiny venue. I saw The Rolling Stones in Spartan Stadium in 1993, a venue that would more than likely be double the size of any baseball stadium Jimmy would play and the sound was Awesome!!! It can work.Quiet and Shy wrote:A stadium tour is risky for sound, but what about weather?? At the pavilions, unless there is a monsoon with hurricane winds and heavy lightning, the show can still go on. At stadiums, since all set up would be outdoors (except for domes and retractable roof venues -- can you imagine how bad that sound would be), you'd have to cancel shows anytime it rained. That would have done in two of the three shows I attended last year. A special concert like Wrigley would be okay as a one-off (okay, so I'm a sentimental Cubs fan) but a whole tour of stadiums would be disappointing for sound quality and inclement weather considerations. I can understand the logic of wanting to make more tickets available per show, but I'm not sure the risks outweigh the perceived benefit here.

I agree.....promoters don't like make up games.usually always rain or shine.....think about it.what's the difference if a performer plays a stadium or an outdoor arena? Do you think they are real concerned about people gettting wet?ejr wrote:The stadium shows I have seen (Stones, Springsteen and a couple of others) were "rain or shine"--at the Springsteen concert the infield was covered with a tarp to protect it from being damaged by all the fans. I wouldn't count on a cancellation or postponement here.

They can usually play through that because they are somewhat covered.and the equipment is designed to withstand the elements....SchoolGirlHeart wrote:it's not the audience..... it's the stage, and the electrical stuff... Chula Vista was postponed last fall because of the rain...ejr wrote:The stadium shows I have seen (Stones, Springsteen and a couple of others) were "rain or shine"--at the Springsteen concert the infield was covered with a tarp to protect it from being damaged by all the fans. From what I understand Chula Vista was flooded from the rain

Yes, my concern was the electrical; last I heard that stuff didn't go well with water. If they can really make the equipment work in rain without any electrocutions (or destroying instruments, for that matter), then that would take care of that problem. I'd still wonder about overall show quality in a driving rain. You can still count me among the skeptics, I guess.

Think of all the sound equipment already set up at outdoor stadiums.......they can do it if they want to...i ve been to stadium shows in the rain..not as fun but the show goes onQuiet and Shy wrote:Yes, my concern was the electrical; last I heard that stuff didn't go well with water. Turner field would be pretty good, they have the parking lots for tailgating.the dome if i recall(went to falcons game this year)don't really have the parking lots for tailgating.they have the parking garage, but i don't think they would want tailgating going on in there.theres not to many bars and resturants that close to have pre-concert activities without having to walk a good distance.land_shark3 wrote:Yeah, I would have trouble with Jimmy at Turner Field, but Philips Arena or the Georgia Dome I could handle. Those have MARTA transportation home.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I hope this isn't accurate, because as historic and fantastic as Jimmy's playing Fenway was, it was a less-than-optimum venue for a concert, as are most stadiums.....

GILLETTE STADIUM IN FOXBORO WOULDN'T BE A BAD VENUE AS FAR AS TAILGATING.THEY HAVE A LOT OF STADIUM SHOWS THERE OVER THE YEARS.IT WOULD BE A TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE.BUT THEY HAVE THE SPACE FOR TAILGATING.SHEA STADIUM(CLOSE TO LONG ISLAND)IN NEW YORK WOULDN'T BE BAD.ANOTHER VENUE WITH PLENTY OF PARKING.SOUND WISE I DON'T KNOW HOW IT WOULD BE BUT IF IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE BEATLES AND THE WHO.WHO KNOWS.WHAT STADIUMS WILL DO IS CUT DOWN ON THE AMOUNT OF SHOWS IN A CITY OR AREA.

Or if there are some promoters and venue managers out there with some balls they could just postpone....Like San Diego this last fall...... Heck Jimmy and crew was more than willing to go on with the show....and they did!!!SchoolGirlHeart wrote:the weather issue is a really good point, though........ without cover, there could be postponements or even *gulp* cancelations.....msu#1 wrote:Has no one considered the fact that tickets might be hell to get this year, yes I know from experience that they have always been tuff(ive only gotten tickets thru ticketmaster once), but maybe Jimmy wants everyone that wants to go to get in this year. Actually it was the grass and the parking lot that was a problem there...well that and the folks from SoCal are weather weeniesSchoolGirlHeart wrote:it's not the audience..... it's the stage, and the electrical stuff... The parking lots are dirt and they were maddly trying to firm them up with truckloads of wood chips. The lawn had to be dried by helicopter...the stage was completly covered and dry the scheduled day of the concert. We walked around and felt a little bad for the crews setting up drink stands and watching their efforts blow away in the wind...
