How to pick an island to vaca in
I am considering a little warm getaway this winter. I'm on the east coast so I want to pick somewhere that airfare will be reasonable. I'd really like someplace with quiet beaches to sip a drink and sit in the sand. Where would you pick?

honestly i don't know too much about airfare because i mostly do cruises in the caribbean which i would highly reccomend (celebrity or princess), but since you're looking for a beach vacation, I reccomend saint John in the USVI, and then theirs Saint Barths which is much more expensive but is the creme-de-le-creme of the caribbean. Oh yeah, i reccomend Grand Cayman too, excellent beaches, but not as seclusive and private and intimate as St. John or St. B's.
I know Jimmy reccomends Goldeneye in Jamaica, but i think thats pretty expensive too.

check here for possible good deals and all of your cruise questions: http://cruisemates.com/
also always check your local news paper for good deals . . .. you can usually find some good deals in february but when your heading towards march the prices will rise again. Best time for cruising is in the summer though, its dirt cheap for caribbean. Check with Royal Caribbean and Carnival (which i would persuade you not to go on, RCI is better than Carnival) for cheaper cruises, but still a great time, just not as intimate and seclusive and service-oriented.

Grand Cayman is/was fun...its been a while though...Little Cayman or cayman brac could be a bit more secluded.OceanCityGirl wrote:I am considering a little warm getaway this winter. Maui is nice...though Airfare might be an issue. Hawaii/Kona is nice...but again the airfare thing.....
Good luck!!!

Grand Cayman is nice. Yes!! But, there is a nice place in Florida on the west coast, called Estero Island. Ft Meyers Beach is there. Water is warm, and many water sports there. Check it out. Thats where we are heading this summer for 3 weeks. Most condo places are only about $700 a week during the summer.OceanCityGirl wrote:I am considering a little warm getaway this winter. British Virgin Islands.
Virgin Gorda is wonderful. Check out Nail Bay. Quiet. Lovely Beach. No night life at the resort.....but I remember they had some nice drink specials.... http://www.nailbayresort.com/index.html
For Cheap/funky place, boaty/beachy lots of activity, great bar (the owner sings there) try Quito Rhymer's place on Cane Garden Bay on Tortola....

Step back in time and experience the feel of the early Caribbean at The Ole Works Inn. This carefully restored 300-year old sugar factory features 18 rooms overlooking picturesque Cane Garden Bay on Tortola's north shore. Each comfortable, air-conditioned room features a private balcony, refrigerator, ceiling fan and phone, some with cooking facilities.
Views of the lush green Tortola hillsides or the white sand rimmed Cane Garden Bay dotted with anchored yachts greet you each morning. Sunsets are spectacular across the bay toward Jost Van Dyke and the setting sun. The very top of the old mill is a Honeymoon Tower complete with a mini-bar, TV, refrigerator and balcony overlooking the bay.
One of the best swimming beaches on Tortola lies just across the street at Cane Garden Bay. Lined with a variety of lively restaurants and nightlife, this beach has something going on all the time. Laze away the afternoon under a palm tree in the shade or rent a sunfish sailboat, kayak, windsurfer, canoe, or dinghy and explore the surrounding bay. Snorkeling and water skiing can also be arranged at Beachfront Watersports Services.
Overlooking the small village of Cane Garden Bay, Ole Works Inn offers unique vacation accommodations along with a beachside restaurant, Quito's Gazebo. Here is where you will find Quito Rhymer, Tortola's famous reggae recording artist, playing solo on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and with his band, The Edge on Friday and Saturday nights. A live steel band entertains during Sunday Brunch.
Walking around Cane Garden Bay and along the beach will uncover many quaint shops, restaurants and bars to explore during your stay at Ole Works Inn. Ask Mr. Callwood to wander through his distillery where white and gold rum is still produced from the sugar cane grown on the hillsides. Purchase a bottle or two to take home and share.
Take a day trip across the channel to Green Cay, Sandy Cay, Little Jost Van Dyke, or Jost Van Dyke and experience a true tropical get-away where you will have the beach, or whole island to yourself. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy snorkeling and swimming on these deserted beaches. There is a trail around Sandy Cay, owned by Laurence Rockefeller, which affords spectacular views of the surrounding islands. Relax and enjoy one of Tortola's little secrets, Cane Garden Bay and The Ole Works Inn.
This place is definitely not a fancy hotel, but we loved it there...

Bora Bora
When you want to get away and not have people talk, call, email or even be around you....when you just want to be at peace with the world by yourself or with your S.O....

We were there and did not see another traveler for over 7 hours...I think the whole 9 days we were at the resort we maybe ran into a few(3 or 4) people at the most....if you can afford it...its heaven on earth. I know you are saying you are on the east coast but right now with airfare soooo cheap to LAX and then packages prices starting around 1200 to Bora Bora you can't go wrong!!!!
if you need anymore info on this, PM me and I can fill you in on all the details....you wont regret the money spent

Thanks guys. I have so much info to look up now. What did we ever do before the internet? Since this is only going to be a long weekend length of travel time matters wo it will have to be somewhere on the east coast. I'm also hoping, with low airfare to take a long weekend at Key West this winter. For that there is tons of info on here.
