How to pick an island to vaca in

I am considering a little warm getaway this winter. I'm on the east coast so I want to pick somewhere that airfare will be reasonable. I'd really like someplace with quiet beaches to sip a drink and sit in the sand. Where would you pick?

honestly i don't know too much about airfare because i mostly do cruises in the caribbean which i would highly reccomend (celebrity or princess), but since you're looking for a beach vacation, I reccomend saint John in the USVI, and then theirs Saint Barths which is much more expensive but is the creme-de-le-creme of the caribbean. Oh yeah, i reccomend Grand Cayman too, excellent beaches, but not as seclusive and private and intimate as St. John or St. B's.

I know Jimmy reccomends Goldeneye in Jamaica, but i think thats pretty expensive too.

Thanks, we're also considering a cruise, but i'm not sure if I could pull that off as cheaply.

also always check your local news paper for good deals . . .. you can usually find some good deals in february but when your heading towards march the prices will rise again. Best time for cruising is in the summer though, its dirt cheap for caribbean. Check with Royal Caribbean and Carnival (which i would persuade you not to go on, RCI is better than Carnival) for cheaper cruises, but still a great time, just not as intimate and seclusive and service-oriented.

Grand Cayman is/was fun...its been a while though...Little Cayman or cayman brac could be a bit more secluded.

Maui is nice...though Airfare might be an issue. Hawaii/Kona is nice...but again the airfare thing.....

Grand Cayman is nice. Yes!! But, there is a nice place in Florida on the west coast, called Estero Island. Ft Meyers Beach is there. Water is warm, and many water sports there. Check it out. Thats where we are heading this summer for 3 weeks. Most condo places are only about $700 a week during the summer.

I would pick Jamaica, but then it's got something there that is alot easier to get then some of the other islands.

If I'm headed to Hawaii I'm gonna find a way to spend some time on Lanai
not cheap but not many pholks either.. Check out NJs lone palm travel.

LouA1A went on a thanksgiving cruise and said the The Caymans were still in bad shape after the hurricanes.
Of course they could be better now?

British Virgin Islands.

Virgin Gorda is wonderful. Check out Nail Bay. Quiet. Lovely Beach. No night life at the resort.....but I remember they had some nice drink specials.... http://www.nailbayresort.com/index.html

For Cheap/funky place, boaty/beachy lots of activity, great bar (the owner sings there) try Quito Rhymer's place on Cane Garden Bay on Tortola....

When you want to get away and not have people talk, call, email or even be around you....when you just want to be at peace with the world by yourself or with your S.O....

We were there and did not see another traveler for over 7 hours...I think the whole 9 days we were at the resort we maybe ran into a few(3 or 4) people at the most....if you can afford it...its heaven on earth. I know you are saying you are on the east coast but right now with airfare soooo cheap to LAX and then packages prices starting around 1200 to Bora Bora you can't go wrong!!!!

We just booked our South Pacific Trip and are staying at the Pearl. We are spending 1 night in Tahiti, 6 nights in Moorea at the Pearl and 6 nights in Bora Bora at La Meridan. I can't wait!!!!!!

Thanks guys. I have so much info to look up now. What did we ever do before the internet? Since this is only going to be a long weekend length of travel time matters wo it will have to be somewhere on the east coast. I'm also hoping, with low airfare to take a long weekend at Key West this winter. For that there is tons of info on here.
