OK, my old camera is a piece of.......work, NOT
I'm looking at Digital Cameras, but what type? There are so many to chose from, What are recomendations? What do YOU use/prefer? Features? Price (looking under $250 if possible)?
Mainly to be used for PHlocking Photos and such type pixs, so night time picture is improtant. Also size(smaller is better) and zoom is important.

Nice looking camera Connie. But I'm looking for something a little thinner. Thanks for the idea, though :D

On advice from Charlie, Nikki and Corey and I bought this Canon:
Image

It has worked great for me and I like it because I can fit it into the back pocket of my jeans, which makes it perfect for phlockings. Although I love the pics I get out of my big old Nikon, I haven't used it since I got my digital cam, except for taking wildlife shots.

That is the type i looking for Kathy, a pocket camera. I have a 35mm Canon that I love, but it is rather bulky to carry around all over in like KW.

I have been pleased with it. It's obviously not great for distance pics...but for phlockings it is good, that's what I have had at all the shows and phlockings, and now is is the only thing I take with me to ATL for pics of the kids.

I would definitely go with a Canon..ease of use, price, features, and quality. The Powershot A75 is a great piece..4 MP..it's the one we have...anything above 4 isn't necessary unless ur doing professional work or want to make giant prints. Good luck on whichever you buy though

I should put in a good word for the Canon as well. When I was looking for a digital camera last year, I was already using an iPaq w/ Compact Flash memory card expanders. After a lot of research, I settled on the A80 (now they are making the A85), 4mp resolution, 3x optical zoom, and something like that for digital as well. I figured that by the time I shot about 30 rolls of film (actually, the digital equiv) thru it, it would have paid for itself in savings over the film version.

Even with the upgrades: additional memory cards, 3 sets of rechargable batteries for it; and a few blank CDs... it has paid for itself.

I can recommend the Canon (altho the one Connie got was/is a close second as well).

Of course, I just picked up 2 lenses for my Canon AE-1, and am burning some film thru it to test those out as well.. Sheesh. :D

Canon has great consumer friendly cameras. If you want a good price try one of the camera houses in NYC, I like B & H myself. Most of us pro's use Canons or Nikons.

These two things conflict. I've found that if you want a camera with decent optical zoom (ignore digital zoom, it doesn't really matter) then you have a camera that is a little bulky to deal with the lens. I know a lot of people are recomending Cannon, but if you want ease of use, look into the Kodak easy share line of cameras. I recently bought one for Christmas for my mother. She had never used a digital before. In about five minutes she was taking some really good shots (and printing them out with the printer you can get for it). I can't remember the number of it. But, all of the cameras in that line worked the same way.

i still stand by the canon digitals.... looking at the D20 to replace the last of my canon film bodies. and my S200 2 Mpixel is still going strong.

if you're looking to keep the price down and based on what you want to do with it you don't need much more than 3 Megpixels. 4 is nice but it will be add 50 to 100 bucks...... optical zoom is a must, ignore any model that only has digital zoom.

i've bought some stuff from KEH cameras in ATL and highly recommend them. most of the NYC shops are pretty sleazy and you have to be very careful to check to see what you're really getting. are the batteries, camera strap, memory card etc. really included in that great price?

I have this one from Fujifilm.. simple, basic, but has a lot of bells and whistles to keep ya entertained. ;) And less than $250, generally. I've been pleased with mine. :)

The only zoom I'm looking for is just that tad bit extra. Not 300 which is on my other camers. 3x optical or something like that
