Do you belong to a ParrotHead Club?

I don't but I should. Every time concert season rolls around I wish I had done this because I don't mind volunteering and it would help me get tix. I think I just feel strange just showing up at a meeting with a bunch of strangers who I don't know and saying I want to join.
The thing is, I've gone to some events hosted by our local club. And there are other events that I would like to go to, but don't because it seems more geared to members.
The other plus to joining is having a bus to go to the concert if I wanted as opposed to having to drive and therefore limiting my alcohol consumption.

I used to be a member in 2 different clubs. One was very open and accepting and I felt I could go to any function alone because everybody cared. Great club. After 5 1/2 years out of the club I am still on their mailing list.
The other seemed like no one would talk to you (pres and vp included) unless you were with a significant other. Pres kind of got a big head about being pres (both the ones I knew from this club). Basically the group was uptight. How uptight you might ask? To borrow a line from Ferris Beuller: if you stuck a lump of coal up their a$$, you would have a diamond within a week.
Bottom line: if the club is fun, you will have fun wherever you go with them.
It also helps if you are outgoing.

I belong to the Last Mango in Paris club..I'm the VEEP! I can understand your hesitation to go to a meeting for the first time, with people you don't know. But 99% of Parrotheads are great, friendly, silly, happy, welcoming people, so it won't be bad! You can join our club, but it might be a loooooong trip to Tennessee every month! We have fun and our president, jimolliemom, is so sweet. Our members are all fairly nuts and I say that with pride.

Maybe take someone with you to your local club meet and from then on, you have it made. The fun and perks and friends you make are well worth the first few seconds of shyness!!

Plus the volunteer work helps so many others.

I belong to the Isle of Iowa parrothead club in Cedar Rapids.
I enjoy it, especially the friendships I've made and the fun volunteer charity work we do.
Lots of fun events here and road trips we make during the year. (The annual Coco-Bowl in Chicago is coming up the first weekend in March).
The concert tickets are nice too.
I highly recommend everyone join one, or at least the on-line virtual P.H.C.

I founded and run the aussie club ... a committee of one .. we dont ever have any fights about things - dunno why - but the committee gets along well
I think what most people said is right on clubs - it will either work for you or not - depends on the club and how you mix with those that go - all of them will have different styles....
doesnt cost much to find out ....

I'm a member of the Wastach Mountain Parrothead Club. It's not terribly political, actually it's not political at all. It's a good bunch of people.

Since hubby has switched to night shift and none of my friends are parrot heads I'll have to go to the meeting by myself. I was wondering if it's all couples. They have their meetings at these local bars once a month and they say, just show up and join if you want to. They're always looking for members since you pay dues to join.

I really hope that the emphasis is on the volunteer work to potential tickets at a 9:1 kinda ratio.

Yes it is. That's why even if I joined and volunteered for a couple of spring events I still wouldn't have accumulated enough points to be eligible for tix this summer. But tix aren't the main reason I'd join. They'd just be a bonus.

They are both about 45 minutes away (if there was no traffic).

You are the sweetest!! But, she speaks the truth. Joining a club is a lot of PHUN. I'm a member of A1A in Jacksonville Beach,FLA and I'm the Prez of LMIP, Paris, TN. We have a charity event of some kind about 8-9 times a year. Then we have a parade, a birthday party and lots of people who dress like us and love Bubba.
