a little help on int'l travel

Post by magnus »

Dos anyone know when you have to go through customs if you have connecting flights? We're coming home from Cancun on a Sunday. Flight doesn't get in until 11pm and we both have to work the next am after an hour drive home. But we have a 5+ hour layover in Philly. Do we, or can we, clear customs there? I thought maybe we could check our bags from Cancun to Philly, get our luggage, go through customs and then check our bags for the last flight home. Will that work or does anyone have another suggestion?

You will go through Customs in Philly (the first U.S. airport you land at), then re-check your bags for the trip home.

I'm unfamiliar with the airport in Philly, but many airlines have a baggage check located near the exit from Customs and Immigration for this purpose.

What Elrod Said...

You check your bags from Cancun all the way home. However you'll pick them up in Philly, carry them through Customs, then give them back to a baggage person after you clear Customs.

Groovy. Suddenly that 5 hour layover seems like a good thing! Thanks for the help.
