Favorite 80s Bands
While we're on the 80s...
Even though I saw it off and on throughout the 80s, we never had eMpTVee until '89 so I was never subjected to most of the skinny-tie new wave bands that dominated the channel in the early days (except for the gracious portion that crossed over to commercial radio).
Some of the stuff I was listening to in the 80s:
R.E.M.
Replacements
Guadalcanal Diary
Long Ryders
Lone Justice
Cruzados
Brandos
X
David Lindley and El Rayo-X
The Connells
Marti Jones
The Cult
Itals
Robert Plant
Steel Pulse
The Cure
Van Halen
Rita Marley
Yes
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Let's Active

First and foremost... forever and always my favorite 80s band (and continues to be one of my faves today) is... The Cure.
Then there's...
Depeche Mode
Duran Duran
XTC
The Go-Gos
David Bowie
Elvis Costello
The Smiths
Dire Straits (thanks for reminding me krusin!)
New Order
Erasure
Squeeze
INXS
Tears For Fears
Oh! And the B-52s! Cosmic Thing is one of my favorite albums of all time.

`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

80s bands
Wore out a couple of cassettes each of these:
Dire Straits
Def Leppard
ZZ Top
Twisted Sister
Hank Williams Jr.
Alabama
Beach Boys (Kokomo!)
Yes, I know, a tad eclectic.

For rock - Van Halen, ACDC, ZZ Top, Aerosmith
Punk/New Wave - Elvis Costello, The Cure, The Clash, Blondie, B-52's, Dire Straits... Alot of bands like this that I can't think of. Some of them not too well known.
Major Springsteen fan, Saw the Stones twice in the 80's, used to go to a bunch of Dead shows, loved them then just can't take them now.
Southern Rock - Like Skynyrd, Molly Hatchett, blanking out here too

OH yeah! What they said
Can't believe I forgot Huey Lewis and the News, and Meatloaf.
Anyone else a fan of...
The Travelin' Wilburys?
I've forgotten if these guys were 80's or 90's, but it's hard as heck to find their CD now. It' a shame, 'cause that was some seriously good music (IMHO, of course!)
