Favorite Reggae Albums (No Marley)

I leave Marley out because I figure every Buffett fan has the Frampton Comes Alive! (or Cracked Rearview depending on your generation) of reggae albums: Legend. The trend to own this reggae album and this reggae album only (especially among college kids) is so pervasive the excellent satrist publication, The Onion did an outstanding piece on this a few years ago saying Legend had been banned from college campuses nationwide. So, with that in mind, here's a list of some of my favorite reggae albums of all time:
1. Various Artists The Harder They Come Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
2. Peter Tosh Get Up, Stand Up
3. Itals Early Recordings 1971-1979
4. Toots and the Maytals Reggae Got Soul
5. Jimmy Cliff I Am The Living
6. Max Romeo Holding Out My Love To You
7. Black Uhuru Tear It Up (Live)
8. Mighty Diamonds Right Time
9. Black Slate Black Slate Rock
10. Burning Spear Marcus Garvey
Honorable mention to the Leslie King Kong Collection, a long out of print compilation that rivals The Harder They Come for capturing reggae at the crossroads of ska and rock steady, Steel Pulse, Third World, David Lindley and El Rayo-X, Dennis Brown, Culture, Lucky Dube and many other bands too numerous to mention.

I have maybe 4 UB40 albums (greatest hits 1 & 2 plus a couple of others which name escapes me right now)
As far as newer Reggae cds I have about 4 from Shaggy, "Hot Shot" being the best.
I also like the soundtrack from "Fifty First Dates".
As you can tell it's pretty much all mainstream with me other than a couple of compilation cds.
The trouble is that with me it's hard to find a reggae album that I enjoy all the way through.
btw, my favorite song from Toots is "Monkey man"

The new Toots and the Maytals CD - True Love is awsome. A duet with Willie Nelson??? Priceless!
The "Deluxe Edition" of The Harder they Come is great, in addition to the fantastic songs on the original soundtrack, a second CD with some great reggae of the time.
Check out the soundtrack for Cool Runnings, good stuff on there too. And the soundtrack for Club Paradise (bad Robin Williams movie) has some good Jimmy Cliff on it - including Brightest Star
I have a lot of compilation CDs, but some of the other artists I like are Burning Spear, Sugar Minot, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh and Ziggy Marley.

You, Jah and I and I needs to remember this joint:
Live if you want to live
(rastaman vibration, yeah! positive!)
That's what we got to give!
(i'n'i vibration yeah! positive)
Got to have a good vibe!
(iyaman iration, yeah! irie ites!)
Wo-wo-ooh!
(positive vibration, yeah! positive!)
If you get down and you quarrel everyday,
You're saying prayers to the devils, i say. wo-oh-ooh!
Why not help one another on the way?
Make it much easier. (just a little bit easier)

It is hard for me to not include any Marley on my list considering that is who's music really introduced me to Reggae. Burnin and the Live album were the 2 that I really heard before I bought Legend.

I don't see anywhere in this thread where I have "quarreled". What I did do is make a simple request (which I very politely explained) that Marley albums were exempt. If people want to include them, so be it but I'm more interested in reading what other reggae bands and artists people are into since Marley pretty much served as the introduction to reggae for most of us.
