guess what GCP, Jimmy didn't patent island music, Kenny has every right to record what he wants, so if you want to deny that Jimmy isnt the only one who makes good island music, you can, but i dont think that would be wise. Oh yeah, and i'm guessing Jimmy aproves of Chesney if he invited him to record the title track with him on his most commercial and best selling studio album yet. what other famous act/artists have sucessfully created there own genre? Only Jimmy. If no one takes Jimmy's place, then the genre pretty much dies with him.
Soooo, which is it????
you can still create a genre but not have a "patent" on it. When i say "patent" i mean that Jimmy isn't the only one who can record island music. He can create his own genre and let others record in it too, as he's done with little complaint.

kinja, please keep your off-topic comments to another thread. the topic of this thread has changed. if you'd like to take the survey, please feel free to do so.

What is your favorite song on the album?

What is the most Buffettesque song on the album, in your opinion?

Which song can you most relate to?

Which song reminds you most of the "islands"?

Is this your favorite Kenny Chesney CD yet?
if you were to read the topic of this thread, you'd know its on page 7, halfway down.

everyone does get to have their opinion, but if you want to post off-topic opinions, please start your own thread and don't clutter up mine anymore than it already is. It's a free country, and you're free to start a thread talking about how much you dont like kennys new album or whatever it is that you want to talk about.

PLEASE LEAVE ALL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT KENNY TO A DIFFERENT THREAD. THANKYOU

I am interested in what others who have bought or heard this album think of the songs.

What is your favorite song on the album?
Sherry's Living In Paradise

What is the most Buffettesque song on the album, in your opinion?
Guitars and Tiki Bars is the most obvious attempt to be Buffettesque

Which song can you most relate to?
Technically, Island Boy since I've done all that in the last 12 months (not from Maine though) but the song gets it all wrong.

Which song reminds you most of the "islands"?
None. They remind me of Top 40 radio in Nashville.

Is this your favorite Kenny Chesney CD yet?
The one with the Uncle Kracker duet. That was a decent pop single though not my style. Kind of bounces in your head like a Britney Spears song.

I usually do not partake in such childish narrow minded threads. I have better things to do with my time on this site. But it really makes me shake my head that anyone can just openly bash music that someone else enjoys. I don't like rap, but don't put down those who do. The theory that Chesney will replace Buffett is an insult to both Chesney and Buffett. Although their music has moments that sound simular, they are different. Nobody can replace anybody. musical artists are as different as fingerprints. If Chesney is writing and performing songs that remind you of Buffett...good for him. Still its all Chesney, his thoughts and visions. Just as Jimmy Buffett sings of his life's experiences, so does Kenny Chesney.

Now to the survey...

What is your favorite song on the album?
As much as I like Old Blue Chair...its a song from his previous release. I really love 3 tracks. Somewhere In The Sun, Key Lime Pie & Soul Of A Sailor
What is the most Buffettesque song on the album, in your opinion?
Island Boy or Key Lime Pie
Which song can you most relate to?
Somewhere In The Sun
Which song reminds you most of the "islands"?
All 13 sound like a day on the Islands
Is this your favorite Kenny Chesney CD yet?
Clearly....As I have stated before on these boards. Old Blue Chair was his best song to date. This collection his right there with it.

The last one, that way I know the long, painful nightmare called Kenny Chesney's new album is finally over.

What is the most Buffettesque song on the album, in your opinion?
None. I know Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney is no Jimmy Buffett. May be the guy that sang that lame ass song about wanting to escape with a Pina Colada but he's certainly no Jimmy Buffett

Which song can you most relate to?
See question #1

Which song reminds you most of the "islands"?
That flushing noise at the end of the last track.

Is this your favorite Kenny Chesney CD yet?
Yeah, boy.

I am not trying to be difficult here, but I didn't realize you had to Like Kenny Chesney to have an opinion on the album. I like the album, don't like Kenny.

1. Somewhere in the Sun
2. Soul of a Sailor
3. Somewhere in the Sun
4. Island Boy

To each his own but the beach bum image he's desperately trying to sell reminds me of a canned ham, they all look a bit different and smell funkier but are all in the same mold. He'll never get out of the can.
I see you are from the midwest..which leads me to wonder if you know anything about the call of the ocean. Maybe you do.....because one doesn't have to be from the coast or an island to feel the gentle pull of the sea on your soul.....I grew up in the mountains of NC and only spent a couple of weeks a year at the beach. But every retreat to my ocean....my home... calms me. You see you don't have to have deep life experiences to understand, appreciate and love the sand and surf. Its about that one shaft of light on your face as you take and early morning stroll and watch the sunrise. Its about the peacefulness of the porpoises at sunset...it about looking deep into yourself and understanding what 's really important in life.

"I let go of a lover that took a piece of my heart and prayed many times for forgivness and a brand new start..."

Haven't we all done that???

tears are BAWLING out of my eyes!!!!   :P beautifully written sunseeker, i am with u 100%, thats the same way i feel. I'm from the midwest but whenever i close my eyes and put in my buffett or chesney cds, its the ocean and the palms and the boats and the sun and the breeze that i feel. . . .not the cold and the clouds and the snow and the terrible city and the polution and the stress. There's nothing more moving and touching than Jimmy's music and Kenny's new CD. . .. it trancends me to another time, another place, on an island far away, somewwhere southeast of disorder . . . .

Nah, that's humor. Being childish is when you try to control the direction a thread is taking by changing the subject line and trying to tell people what they can't post. Yeah, and Kenny Chesney STILL s ucks.

sort of like sh*tting your pants and throwing a hissy fit over someone posting an album released in 2001 that was re-released on DVD in 2004 for their precious "Favorite albums of 2004" thread. I'd say thats an example of "trying to control the direction . .. " and "trying to tell people what they can't post." I would have started ANOTHER Kenny thread for my little interesting survey, but i knew i'd catch hell for starting another one and theres already way too damn many KC threads as it is. by the way, you don't have to say "s ucks", "sucks" works just fine
