The Speedo Man is a go with the flow kind of guy and your Royal Manlyness here definently likes to take life very easy, but the Speedo Man has a very hard time accepting Kenny Chesney as a heir to Jimmy. Kenny is just okay maybe, anybody who writes a song called " She thinks my tractor is sexy" does not really demonstrate to the Speedo Man a real tropical folk rock singer.Maybe its the cowboy hat or something but Chesney will never come close to Jimmy.
The Speedo Man is 43 years old, 100 ibs overweight, suffers from male pattern baldness, old Bobby boy here cannot get a date if his life depended on it, and the Prince Of Bluberness still lives with his parents.

KC didn't write the song "She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy

He's just selling us a mental vacation...something Buffett has been doing for us since before Kenny Chesney was even thought of.

I think the biggest suprise from Kenny Chensey is about to come this year when he adds Pat Green to his tour line up for the "second leg." For those think like more upbeat country and songs like "WDWGD" ...hold on to your alcoholic beverages...it's going to be a WILD summer on the Chesney tour!
Kenny is 37. He's older than buffett was when he wrote everything previous to and including One Particular Harbour in 1983 (that means ALL of buffett's work in the 70s, plus coconut telegraph, somewhere over china, and OPH), so i dont think your point about him not knowing about "sailing" or "being a pirate" is a very valid one. Afterall, Jimmy was just a young guy from southern mississippi. . ..
And doesn't Kenny live on an island most of the time?
yes he does. I'm pretty sure his permanent residence is on Saint John but im not 100% sure. Also he's lived in the islands for more many years now.

I don't get your point? Are you saying that KC's work is as good as Buffetts early stuff? What is KC"s AIA? What has KC done that will be considered a classic 15 years from now?

My point is that you cannot say that Kenny doesn't know any less than buffett knew/knows about island life, considering that Kenny has lived in the islands for many years now. By point about Kenny's age is that he isn't a "young guy from east tenessee", he's almost middle aged. You can clearly see that the Kenny Chesney who sang "When I Close My Eyes" is a clearly different person than he is now. In this new album, he describes that what the islands did to him is similar to being like a born-again christian, he became a new person, and found peace and harmony. Anyway, back on track. . .. yes, I do believe that this album is as good as / if not better than most of Buffett's early albums (maybe excluding CILCIA), but if you take the best of buffett's early work its better than this album. What exactly do you mean by "What's Kenny's A1A?" If you are asking me what Kenny's best record is, than in my opinion its this one, but thats all up to personal preference. What has Kenny done that will be considered a classic 15 years from now? "Don't Happen Twice," "She's Got It All," "When I Close My Eyes," "How Forever Feels," "You Had Me From Hello," "Young", "The Good Stuff", and "There Goes My Life" just to name a few that will still be played 15 years from now. But if you really think about it, what has Jimmy done that is considered a classic? Margaritaville and thats about it. . . .

but i urge you to see this Kenny Chesney as a different person. Making this album was a huge risk for Kenny . . . if you listen to it you will deffinatley be able to see that none of it can be played on contemperary country radio, because none of this is country music by any means. Its a clear mix of calypso, reggae, and singer/songwriter folk/country. Its different. It doesn't have any sexy tractors or anything like that. This album is a peice of artwork . .. . it conveys the emotion of the artist and transcends the listener into the artist's emotion. I know that its deffinatley one of the best albums i've ever listened to.

Also, don't hate Kenny because he's "copying Jimmy". He's really not doing that. Jimmy is uniquely Jimmy and Kenny is uniquely Kenny. Jimmy reflects the gulf coast and Key West, Kenny reflects the Virgin Islands. Their music is both "island" music, but its different. Buffett's is clearly better written lyrically, but Kenny's matches Jimmys musically for sure.

sorry for my huge post

to all of those who think that Kenny Chesney is a phoney, here's what ex-coral reefer Josh Leo had to say (thanks connie for giving me the info!):
White Overalls wrote:ph4ever-While it's only my opinion, and I believe ALL are entitled to there's, I found Kenny to be a very down to earth guy and very much a Buffett fan and very "respectful" of what Jimmy does. So he likes Jimmy's music. Artist are always quoted as having somone who inspired them..hey Alan Jackson recorded one of Jimmy's songs, do people hate him for it? Why is it not right for Kenny to be a PH deep inside and do acouple of Buffett sounding songs? He did my song and that really sounds like a Buffett song......o.k. maybe because I played with JB for 6 yrs?
KC does other types of music too that is not Buffett sounding and is it such a bad thing to suddenly have more choices for Buffett typse music?
A few yrs ago, you couldn't find this kind of music outside of JB if you're life depended on it.
SO...in my long winded fashion, I thank Mr. Chesney for stepping up and admitting...My name is Kenny, and I am a PH.

Here is where I disagree with you...

On the heels of LTC, amidst all of the Buffett hulabaloo in 2004, and all of the talk of country music going to the beach, I think he struck while the iron was hot. I think he'll get as much airplay as WTSGD did, if not more. And the whole industry will make the same comparison of KC's style to Buffett, that the posted review did.

I'm not faulting him, I just don't think there is any risk at all on his part with this album.

When I think risk, I think Chris Gaines... which flopped.

It wont get as much airplay as WTSGD because Kenny has said that because it is a personal cd, he will not be releasing a singles to radio, just the Old blue Chair video which is technically still a part of WTSGD

i have to respectfully disargree. . .. . i heard the song "somewhere in the sun" performed by Kenny back in 2001 or 2002, whenever "No Shirt, No Shoes. . . " was released. There was a mini-doccumentary about his tour on CMT and I clearly remember him performing that song acoustic on the bus, and then hearing him talk about the islands, so im guessing that some of these songs on this album have been around for a long time. In other words, this album was being created long before the buffett-boom of 04. It's still a risk because there has been very little advertisement for this album (except on CMT.com), there won't be any singles released from it, and lets just face it: it's not country music at all. Just listen to the song "Magic" or "Guitars, Tiki Bars" or any song on this album. He did strike when the iron was hot no doubt, but this project has been going on for some time at least with Kenny personally, becuase i remember hearing Somewhere in the Sun (i believe) long before this album was released.

BUT, whether its a risk or not, I'm still glad he made this album, it's a real treasure!

It is not a bad album, but the Speedo Man here would just feel plain wrong buying a Chesney album. Your Royal Manlyness is just kinda of wondering if you are getting any royalties for pluging KC album so much?
The Speedo Man is 43 years old, 100 ibs overweight, suffers from male pattern baldness, old Bobby boy here cannot get a date if his life depended on it, and the Prince Of Bluberness still lives with his parents.
