I'm almost as big a KC fan as a Bubba fan. I have been wishing for an album like this from Bubba for a LONG time. Something slow and down to earth or maybe down to beach . Don't get me wrong, alot of the early Bubba stuff is like that and I enjoy them immensely (see Ballads).
If I could make an album it would be just like this. They are the only 2 artists who are a "must see" for me every summer.
Key Lime Pie is hilarious. Right up their with Math Suks/Hokey Pokey!

He does talk alot about St. John. Cinnamon Bay is mentioned in Blue Chair and that is in St. John so maybe he lives near there?
Question: "And now Kenny Chesney has recorded a beach album." Jimmy's Answer: "It's flattering. Some people say I should be p*** off about it but I'm really not. It's the highest form of flattery, and I'm fine with it."

Here is where I disagree with you...

On the heels of LTC, amidst all of the Buffett hulabaloo in 2004, and all of the talk of country music going to the beach, I think he struck while the iron was hot. I think he'll get as much airplay as WTSGD did, if not more. And the whole industry will make the same comparison of KC's style to Buffett, that the posted review did.

I'm not faulting him, I just don't think there is any risk at all on his part with this album.

When I think risk, I think Chris Gaines... which flopped.
i have to respectfully disargree. . .. . i heard the song "somewhere in the sun" performed by Kenny back in 2001 or 2002, whenever "No Shirt, No Shoes. . . " was released. There was a mini-doccumentary about his tour on CMT and I clearly remember him performing that song acoustic on the bus, and then hearing him talk about the islands, so im guessing that some of these songs on this album have been around for a long time. In other words, this album was being created long before the buffett-boom of 04. It's still a risk because there has been very little advertisement for this album (except on CMT.com), there won't be any singles released from it, and lets just face it: it's not country music at all. Just listen to the song "Magic" or "Guitars, Tiki Bars" or any song on this album. He did strike when the iron was hot no doubt, but this project has been going on for some time at least with Kenny personally, becuase i remember hearing Somewhere in the Sun (i believe) long before this album was released.

BUT, whether its a risk or not, I'm still glad he made this album, it's a real treasure!
It is not a bad album, but the Speedo Man here would just feel plain wrong buying a Chesney album. Your Royal Manlyness is just kinda of wondering if you are getting any royalties for pluging KC album so much?

Your Royal Prince of Blubberness. Trust me on this. Wanna meet women - lots and lots of women. Learn the KC music and go to one of his shows.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

All I have ever heard him say is that he lives on one of the "St." islands.

he says "I watched boats sail in and out of cinnamon bay" or something like that. So that leads me to believe he either lives on Saint John, Saint Thomas (which is unlikely because its hard to see cinnamon bay from saint thomas), Jost Van Dyke (but thats kind of further away from cinnamon bay so it may be hard to see it from there), or he has his own island, maybe one of the thatch islands

speaking of Kenny, did anyone see his performance today at one of the inaguration celebrations (the one outside the whitehouse). He did a nice rendition of "Back Where I Come From" (written by mr. mcanally, ofcourse), with just him, piano, and someone else doing harmony.

In responses to some of your questions and quotes on the first and second page on this topic...

First let me say...I am a KC fan... a HUGE KC fan! I just have more musical respect for Buffett.

When I said what I said it was because in my view KC's songs about Islands or whatever are inspired by his success. I have seen simular posts about "striking while the iron is hot." Buffett's "eariler music...ie when he was 37 or younger" was not motivated by his successes but rather what he wanted to do.

Those that say this album won't have any country radio airplay.... I bet guitars and tiki bars will be playing on country radio everywhere this summer! But I think Be as you are will be released as a single first.

I agree that KC concerts have a certain buffett feel to them...but I think comparing them is like comparing apples and organes...they are both fruitcakes...but VERY different.

Just out of curiosity, where did you guys hear that no singles would be released to radio? That's news to me.

I was wondering why a single hadn't been released with the ablbum coming out next week. Guess that explains it.

Is anyone who does reggae a Bob Marley wanna be?
There are tons of acts out there in every genre who could be compared to another act. Bottom line, If it sounds good, it sounds good and that's all that matters.

I play guitar and have wrote quite a few songs, almost all "Islandesque" and if I recorded a cd today it would be tropical. If that makes me a "wanna be" in some eyes so be it. There are so many artists out there now doing this type of music from Jim Morris to Kenny on up to Jimmy.
The more tropical music the better. It beats the crap out of bubble gum pop and gangsta rap.

actually the reason why he went down to the islands was because his fiance broke up with him right before they were supposed to get married, so he went down to the virgin islands to try to get his mind off that and found it to be a life-changing place, and never looked back since. I don't think his island style has as much to do with sucess than it does to with just being depressed about your own fiance breaking off the wedding. Listen to his song "I Can't Go There," and that should explain a lot. Also listen to "Old Blue Chair" and you'll see how he explains that "[he] let go of a lover, that took a peice of [his] heart."
