Guys, those one dollar adds up. Jimmy is in charge fo SFC. Not ticketmaster. Yes, look at what your dollar did in the year 2003.fleshandbone wrote:The SFC dollar is not a TM charge it's a contribution to Jimmy's foundation.buffettbride wrote:I think Ticketmaster sux. I don't believe in that cause, but if I want to see Jimmy then TM makes their bux.
I wouldn't necessarily call the contribution political. Check out the grants they've made. We should all be able to agree that these are good causes.

looks like some pretty good charities we PH's supported that year (and every year, no doubt).....jhamel wrote:Yes, look at what your dollar did in the year 2003.
Yea!!!!
<---see my avatar. on some level i agree with you and on others I don't. Even if it were not a cause I agreed with, I would still pay it because my love of Jimmy Buffett is far greater than how I feel about his politics.Cheese wrote:
No offense, I just enjoy pushing those buttons.
You're barking up the wrong tree..... SFC specifically says it DOESN'T normally contribute to political organizations or events.....Cheese wrote:1) I really DON’T care about a dollar. It is the principle, I believe in the separation of entertainment and politics.
Areas of Interest
Children and families
Grants are awarded to programs that are concerned with the health, education and protection of children and their families. Projects that foster self-esteem and self-sufficiency and that teach nonviolence and creative problem solving are most likely to be considered.
The environment
Grants will be awarded to programs that promote environmental awareness and teach people methods of conservation, protection and the responsible use of natural
resources. Efforts to protect individual species or animals are not usually funded by SFC.
Disenfranchised groups
SFC defines these groups as people who have been marginalized in our society because of their low levels of skill, education or income; people with AIDS, disabilities, and homeless people. Projects most likely to be considered are those which:
1. help people overcome social or economic barriers to education or employment
2. promote the empowerment of individuals toward self-sufficiency, and provide opportunities for personal growth
3. demonstrate human equality and encourage people to cross boundary lines to help others.
Geographic Focus: Nationwide.
Funding Categories: Grants range in size from $500.00 to $10,000.00 and are made on an annual basis.
Restrictions: Grants are made only to nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code, or who have a sponsoring agency with this status. SFC Charitable Foundation, Inc. does not normally consider grants to individuals or to fund research, basic-needs programs (for example, programs that exist to supply food or clothing) or single service programs, governmental agencies, artistic, political or fundraising organizations or events, programs that promote religious doctrine, or organizations outside the United States. It is hoped that nonprofit organizations who apply to SFC for support are operated and organized without discrimination in hiring staff or providing services on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin or disability.
The phrase "get a life" comes to mind.Cheese wrote:2) You are still forced to pay the dollar. If you are in a burning building, you are FORCED to breath smoke. One option could be not breathing I guess. Not breathing is the same as not going to a Buffett concert.
