SINGING FOR CHANGE + Pre-Election Concerts = Do not support party in office??
They didn't, that was Vote For Change and they were sponsored by moveon.org.
Thank you!!! I was reading this thread to see if somebody would point that out!

If you're a R.E.M. fan it's no secret they have always been outspoken when it comes to politics. Not to mention, they'd just come off the Vote for Change Tour. Like I said, they never endorsed a canidiate at the concerts I attended, they only encouraged folks to get out and vote. To boo them just because of this was extremely rude and totally uncalled for.

The reality is that Jimmy is donating the dollar, not you or me. He is jsut letting everyone know up front. Would it bother you if it also said that your money was going to pay for a new boat or plane?

Well, if he sells out a concert to, say, 40,000 people, that is 40,000 dollars that the charity didn't have before so I don't see a problem in "only" donating a dollar phrom each ticket...

It's simple... if you have an objection with the charity of choice, don't buy the ticket

So the ticket prices DID NOT go up?
And the $1 basically comes out of Jimmy's profit margin?
And the money goes to a charity?
And the SFC is suppose to help out communites?
And the NATIONAL slogan of ParrotHeads "Party with a Purpose"?

Yeah I see the problem!!!
NOT

I have zero problem with the SFC donation even though I think that modern day liberalism is a disease that needs to be stopped. Read thier mission statement, they primarily support children's charities.

Children's charities! Boy, those are liberal.

See, I think booing them for that is not only rude, but unAmerican..... literally.....

I'm glad Jimmy leaves politics off the stage. I'm there for music, not political commentary. But simply urging people to vote isn't political commentary, it's encouraging participation in the selection of our government!

I can't believe this discussion has gone on for FOUR pages on this point about $1. People don't have a problem over paying for scalped seats by hundreds of dollars, but they worry about $1 for charity. If anything everybody should be outraged by the over-paying of scalped seats from ticket brokers or Ebay that are the real problems. If people didn't pay the scalpers, they would not exist!!!! So don't worry about the single dollar worry about the $50 or the $100 or the $200...

I don't think it's un-American but like you said, considering the nature of the commentary I feel it was absolutely unnecessary.

that is the only way that our government grows, and it is in part what our country was founded upon.

Rude, maybe. But I fail to see how exercising one's First Amendment rights could be considered un-American.

okay, if you look at it as a free-speech issue, I agree, it's not unAmerican.

I was looking at it from the angle that it's unAmerican to boo someone who's encouraging exercising your freedom to vote. technically and constitutionally, I suppose that's really not unAmercan, but in spirit, it sure seems like it is to me. but that's just MHO. :D
