One of the advantages of the internet is being able to sample an artists' recordings before forking over any cash for one of their albums.

I have to say though, this is very true. I only download legally or listen to music over the internet legally, but thats how i've found many of the latin artists i like. There aren't any latin music stations in NE ohio, so thats how i found people like Alejandro Sanz or Juanes, just by sampling things over the net and sticking with what you like.Jahfin wrote:One of the advantages of the internet is being able to sample an artists' recordings before forking over any cash for one of their albums.
You seemed to have already answered your own question but in this instance I was referring to the samples on Will's web site. I imagine there's other sources to hear his material as well.DsilCaribe wrote:legally?Jahfin wrote:One of the advantages of the internet is being able to sample an artists' recordings before forking over any cash for one of their albums.
lol, i did answer my own question, but i was more referring to will with when i asked "legally" since AOL does not have any full songs you can hear from will, but they do have short 20 second or so samples.Jahfin wrote:You seemed to have already answered your own question but in this instance I was referring to the samples on Will's web site. No problem. I was just offering you some free music. No strings attatched. If you want to be closed minded that's your option. I always love to discover new artists who I probably won't hear on my local Clear Channel country station, but that's me. To each his own.DsilCaribe wrote:i heard him sing "Peice of Work" with Jimmy solo on the Coastal Confessions concert, and personally i didn't really like his voice. I guess my opinion of his voice could always change if i heard more of his songs, but i really have no interest in looking into his work, i'm really not gonna pay money to hear something i don't really like. . . (and therein lays a whole other conversation about how if radio played more people and bigger diversity you could hear those people without paying money to hear them, and then if you like them you could buy their albums) He kinda made a bad impression on from what i heard, but i still think he's an excellent guitarist. It's just my opinion, which should mean absolutley nothing to you. You really shouldn't care what i think of him. Wills voice disgusting? I've never heard that before. HAve you heard any of his solo work? Have you heard any of his work at all? Allow me to send you some before you make that judgement. You would go nuts if anyone spoke that way about your boys Chesney or Urban.
I've noticed a lot of people here take music so seriously. It's just music. You either like it or you don't. It either sounds good or it doesn't. Music for me is just for entertainment and relaxation, and sometimes for escapism, but thats all. It's just music, so if i don't like what you like don't try to make me like it or be mad at me for not liking what you like. I know i've probably fallen victim to this once or twice, but i rarely try to get people to listen to what i listen to if i know they won't like it. For instance, i posted that Kenny Chesney thread for people who like Kenny, and i didn't really have people who i know aren't gonna like it in mind when i posted it here.
btw, i wouldn't take offense if you said that one of my favorites had a bad voice because that would be your opinion. But, if you said Keith Urban was a bad guitarist, then I'd think you're crazy!!!! but i wouldn't take offense. . .. honestly i could care less what others think of what i listen to, and i don't care about what others here listen to either . . .everyone likes different things, and thats cool.
honestly im perfectly happy with the country music thats on the radio today, so thanks but no thanks for trying to get someone who you've never even met and probably shouldn't care about to like what you like.a1aara wrote:No problem. All I was doing was asking you to listen before you form an opinion. Just like you have did in so many posts concerning Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban. I don't see the difference.DsilCaribe wrote:honestly im perfectly happy with the country music thats on the radio today, so thanks but no thanks for trying to get someone who you've never even met and probably shouldn't care about to like what you like.a1aara wrote:No problem. find one incedence where i asked you to listen to Kenny Chesney before making an opinion. What you'll find is "so many" posts is a large over exageration, and "none" would be much more appropriate. I know you've formed your opinion on Chesney, and I honestly don't care enough about you that I want you to change that opinion, so i wont push anything on you.a1aara wrote:All I was doing was asking you to listen before you form an opinion. Since you asked> You wrote:
My point is that you cannot say that Kenny doesn't know any less than buffett knew/knows about island life, considering that Kenny has lived in the islands for many years now. By point about Kenny's age is that he isn't a "young guy from east tenessee", he's almost middle aged. You can clearly see that the Kenny Chesney who sang "When I Close My Eyes" is a clearly different person than he is now. In this new album, he describes that what the islands did to him is similar to being like a born-again christian, he became a new person, and found peace and harmony. Anyway, back on track. . .. yes, I do believe that this album is as good as / if not better than most of Buffett's early albums (maybe excluding CILCIA), but if you take the best of buffett's early work its better than this album. What exactly do you mean by "What's Kenny's A1A?" If you are asking me what Kenny's best record is, than in my opinion its this one, but thats all up to personal preference. What has Kenny done that will be considered a classic 15 years from now? "Don't Happen Twice," "She's Got It All," "When I Close My Eyes," "How Forever Feels," "You Had Me From Hello," "Young", "The Good Stuff", and "There Goes My Life" just to name a few that will still be played 15 years from now. But if you really think about it, what has Jimmy done that is considered a classic? Margaritaville and thats about it. . . .
but i urge you to see this Kenny Chesney as a different person. Making this album was a huge risk for Kenny . . . if you listen to it you will deffinatley be able to see that none of it can be played on contemperary country radio, because none of this is country music by any means. Its a clear mix of calypso, reggae, and singer/songwriter folk/country. Its different. It doesn't have any sexy tractors or anything like that. This album is a peice of artwork . .. . it conveys the emotion of the artist and transcends the listener into the artist's emotion. I know that its deffinatley one of the best albums i've ever listened to.
Also, don't hate Kenny because he's "copying Jimmy". He's really not doing that. Jimmy is uniquely Jimmy and Kenny is uniquely Kenny. Jimmy reflects the gulf coast and Key West, Kenny reflects the Virgin Islands. Their music is both "island" music, but its different. Buffett's is clearly better written lyrically, but Kenny's matches Jimmys musically for sure.
sorry for my huge post
dchspoptart,I have an mp3 of it that I can send out to those that can't access the page.
To me, this song sounds weird... you can hear another vocalist under Jimmy when he's doing Toby's part. Maybe its just me...
Also, I think it'd be cool to have Jimmy and Will do it together.
It's been released to radio. Now it's up to the PDs if they'll play it or not.Mr. Sandbar wrote:Has the single itself been released, or is it yet to be released to country radio?
