What is the tailgating like? What time does the parking lot open in Fort Lauderdale? Is alcohol not allowed? You say there is tailgating, but not to this extent we are used to. Could u explain some more?

WE got there like 6(the show was at 8) I think (like I remember)...we were certainly drinking in the parking lot of both the mall and the Center...in fact I brought my beer from the bar at the mall to the parking lot where the empty cup was re filled several times. I was also doing shots of vodka (poor confused guy...) in line to get into the show. They also sell beer outside the Center too, but don't buy it cause they won't let you in the door of the Center with it, plus it was like $8 a can...

Ok now anyone thinking of hooking up before the show??? PM me for my number and where you will be

I heard that there were some issues at West Palm about someone getting killed by a car at his last show there and that was why he has not been back since.
Maybe just a rumor but I do believe I remember reading an online article about the accident, just not sure if that's the reason
I didn't hear that but I was at the last show they had there and they got rained offstage...so that sucked. After that every year has been indoors. Oh well, I go to see him where ever he is, and its always a good time no matter what.
I was there too (Feb 01) but I don't seem to remember that.
I'll blame it on the rum I guess

I remember a quote from Serge along the lines of:
"Floriduh, people come down, they think we're stupid and then we rob them blind" or
something like that

The new book is out and I'll be getting it this week!!

Unfortunately, someone was killed after the last concert in Palm Beach:

Feb 26

The Palm Beach Post had this sobering report [thanks to Linda Most]:

POLICE BLOTTER

A Jimmy Buffett fan died Sunday morning after she was struck by a van while leaving Saturday's concert, Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies said. Just after 11 p.m. Saturday, Leela Nolte, 21, of Bonita Springs was run over as she walked along Sansbury Way, just outside the Mars Music Amphitheatre. The northbound van that hit her was driven by Kelly Patten, deputies said. Nolte was trapped under the van and had to be extricated. She was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. The van also hit Jason Pillifant, 25 of Miami. He was treated and released from Wellington Regional Medical Center.
As sad and as unfortunate as this was, I still have a hard time believing that he would never go back there because of this. This is the kind of thing that could happen anywhere.

To everyone attending upcoming shows: I hope you have the time of your life. I go to 2-3 shows per year, and I look forward to those 2-3 nights about as much as any day of the year. Enjoy the hell out of the show! But, please be careful! We don't need to be reading any more stories like this.

I went to the 2003 Miami show at the AAA. The people there were rude and bitchy if you stood during any of the show except for Margaritaville. I was in the top nosebleed section and people complained constantly. I don't think I'll ever go to a Florida show again. I know of people that went to the various shows throughout Florida that month and they all faced similar problems. I personaly think it depends on the venue and crowd that makes or breaks a show as I've been to other Buffett indoor shows and had a blast.

I've noticed that too and I'm from here.
Although no one has ever complained to me about it.
At the last couple of shows there were people that were behind us that got up and left not long into the show.
My take is why should I sit when the people in front of me are not sitting as well as nearly everyone in here?
Fickle fans I guess

I too had the peoblem of someone complaining that I was standing, she was a big fat girl so I told het that if she stood more often, she wouldn't have any problems standing through a show...she didn't say another word the rest of the show. I am from Florida (born and raised) and I refuse to let a bunch of transplants tell me I can't stand during a Buffett show...they already ran me out of my own state by shutting down our fishing, but I'll br damned if they ruin my Buffett too

I was with a group of people and we were scattered throughout the arena. Those sitting way outnumbered those standing by about 80%. It was so sad.

I have attended the Lauderdale show several times, one of our 7 - 8 shows per year. Here is some info and elaboration on some of the comments already noted:

This indoor show is OK from a sound basis, but not as good as a tin roof outdoor show.

The parking lot is indeed huge, but no porta potti's. This is a major issue for tailgaters, but park in the lot nearest the mall. We trekked over to the Hard Rock for bathroom breaks, a drink, then out to our rented SUV. Repeatas often as necessary. Note; The Hard Rock does it up parrothead style, some people stay here versus the lot.

The parking lot often does not open to 3 or even 5 pm. People hang in the mall lot, then move over.

Have fun!!
