Buffett To Play @ Gillette Stadium July 4th
From today's Boston Herald
We hear that Jimmy Buffett may bypass the Tweeter Center, Fenway Park and Labor Day Weekend this year for a July 4 blowout at Gillette Stadium. The Parrotheads are ALL aflutter contemplating that tailgate!

as I just posted in another thread:
know what I think? I think it's possible that those who saw the Saturday Great Woods show in 2003 might just have seen the last Jimmy Buffett Great Woods show......

Know the feeling. Pine Knob in Michigan went out of Jimmy's favor several years ago

i hope sgh is incorrect. however, i am glad i saved my stub from that concert. i'm wondering if the golf event has something to do with a different venue. i would miss the traditional labor day show. it is such a great way to end the summer.
as long as bubba plays somewhere here that has tailgating i'll be happy. i'm still hoping for future gw shows (i'll never call it tweeter ctr!).

The golf event is 100% the reason behind this!MacPhin wrote:i hope sgh is incorrect. however, i am glad i saved my stub from that concert. i'm wondering if the golf event has something to do with a different venue. i would miss the traditional labor day show. it is such a great way to end the summer.

I do agree somewhat, but this year it looks as if Great Woods is competing with Wrigley. Also look at it this way. The parking charge for the golf tourney at Great Woods is $10 a car per day. Now I am not sure if TPC is renting the lot from GW for a fixed fee or if GW gets to keep the money or a comination, but that's a huge payday for GW for doing next to nothing. Easy money. As of right now the tourney is at TPC Boston through 06. There is/was talk that the PGA would like to move it out to the west coast so that it finishes during prime time in the east. That said, I'd rather see Jimmy at Great Woods then at the Razor any day. But of course I'd also rather see him at any Margaritaville then at Great Woods

IMHO, Bubba's increased interest in these bigger venues is becoming far less appealing. Great Woods is fairly intimate for a concert. Unless you have great seats at one of the stadiums, the projection screens are THE only way to see the performers.
Me thinks his ego and desire to make more $ are increasingly more important than playing some of the best venues around (from both the musician and concertgoer perspective). I'm simply being frank, not complaining. Whatever he offers, I/we can take it or leave it. But our opinions are worth something so I thought I'd post mine.
And lest we forget....rumors are just that until confirmed by a reliable source

Re: Gillette
I can understand your perspective, but I also think it could be his way of making more concert tickets available to fans without having to increase the number of shows he does (not just ego and greed). That said, it is a compromise and not necessarily ideal.SailorGal wrote: Me thinks his ego and desire to make more $ are increasingly more important than playing some of the best venues around (from both the musician and concertgoer perspective). Great Woods make far more money renting the lot at $10 per car for 5 days then they would for 2 Buffett shows. Not only do they get to keep all the money they make for parking, their overhead is very low with staffing it. For a concert they have to split the money from the ticket sales and pay 20 times more people to staff the lot not to mention the clean up the next morning.jimsig wrote:I do agree somewhat, but this year it looks as if Great Woods is competing with Wrigley. I totally agree. But what if Jimmy simply played GW some weekend other than Labor Day, steering clear of the golf tourney completely? It would be a non-issue.BottleofRum wrote:jimsig wrote:BottleofRum wrote: Great Woods make far more money renting the lot at $10 per car for 5 days then they would for 2 Buffett shows. In response to another poster, I honestly don't know if Gillette would be his way of making more tickets available or if he wants to play larger venues. Only Bubba can answer that one
I do know that generally a bigger venue means more expensive tickets. The average price of a Fenway tickets v. GW was $20+ at face. I know of several club members that found it tough to shell out that extra cost plus additional transportation, etc. It was a unique experience but not being able to tailgate was very expensive.

I really don't think the golf tournament is the big factor in not doing Great Woods......I'm not sure what the reasoning is but Jimmy has been going to a lot of different venues. Three years ago, I think most people assumed that Irvine Meadows and Great Woods were locks on any tour.....now, it looks like 2 years without either one. I'm just happy he's playing though......amphitheatres, stadiums, or my backyard (which would be ideal).....I'll go see Jimmy anywhere!

sigh parking if it is the same as it is for the pats, 20 to 40 per car i believe they charge more for campers and buses, maybe 75? perhaps he will only sell lower sections? maybe he will actually bring a warmup act? you are right about the tailgate possibilities just have to coordinate which lot to park in

I think he's playing these venues because it's a pretty awesome thing to be able to say "I've played a concert at Wrigley Park, Fenway Park, Gillette..." or to see a concert there. I probably won't ever go back to Tweeter in Chicago, but if he plays Wrigley, I am SO there!!
And don't forget the liability for a parking lot for a golf tournament compared to the liability for a Buffett show...

Funny thing is that Irvine is being skipped as well. The two have often been compared as the left and right coast versions of each other. At least San Diego is still a regular stop...for nowSchoolGirlHeart wrote:as I just posted in another thread:
