Re: Do we help scalpers??
my experience ( and it comes only from waiting at outlets with a couple of scalpers, and doing it often enough that we would chat) tells me that they know the dates as early (if not earlier) than we do. and once ticket sales time approaches, the info is available everywhere.msu#1 wrote:By giving the less than totally professional ones a heads up on tickets and rumors???
Re: Do we help scalpers??
they buy top shows every weekend, U2 goes onsale this weekend(and the onsale date was released yesterday) and if its anything like 2 years ago, the 'semi pros' will be right there with the professionals...msu#1 wrote:By giving the less than totally professional ones a heads up on tickets and rumors???
I don't think we tip off the scalpers, knowing the dates early is nice so I can make sure I'm in town, but I don't think it gets me better tickets...it gets me a hotel room though, which makes knowing early well worth it

Well, I would say that yes we do help scalpers but probably not in the way you meant.msu#1 wrote:By giving the less than totally professional ones a heads up on tickets and rumors???
We help scalpers because we continue to buy from them. If we didn't pay the higher fees, scalpers wouldn't last long. They aren't in the business to lose money on tickets.
From a personal experience; in the past, I bought tickets for other events and sold them on eBay. When I stopped making money on the transaction, I quit buying tickets unless I was going to an event.

I don't think that will ever happen. There are people out there that will only by from them because money is no object and they know they can always depend on them for tickets.land_shark3 wrote:We help scalpers because we continue to buy from them. I hate to admit it, but I did this too. It was too lucrative, yet totally simple. Once ticket prices started rising, my interest waned because I didn't want to take the risk anymore on a flaky artist. From a personal experience; in the past, I bought tickets for other events and sold them on eBay. When I stopped making money on the transaction, I quit buying tickets unless I was going to an event.

Absolutely. Like any other person in this world, they provide a service and serve to help some of us out. Beleive me I have done the "wait in line" and frantically calling on phone or over the net" and it just got very very old.I don't think that will ever happen. There are people out there that will only by from them because money is no object and they know they can always depend on them for tickets.

I think as a whole, parrotheads hurt scalpers way more than they hurt them- how many other artists have sites as large as BN, COBO, etc that have dedicated scalper-free ticket areas? I know I searched and searched for something similar for other sold out shows, and I've also managed to get tickets to every show I've wanted to go to for face value.

Dude, it was bad, I was really pretty relieved when he said he didn't think we should try it- I seriously could not see more than 5 feet in front of the car, he just got it back from being repaired, and they hadn't touched the roads. It sucked that we didn't get to go, but I think making it there without ending up in a ditch would have used up all of our luck!
