What are some upcoming new albums you're looking forward to in 2005?

Off the top of my head here's some I'm looking forward to hearing in the coming year:

The Fiery Furnaces
The Moaners-"Dark Snack"
Rolling Stones
Jason Isbell-"Sirens of the Ditch"
Kathleen Edwards
Pearl Jam

One thing (out of many) that I admire about John Prine, he serves no album before it's time. When I saw him with Todd a couple of years ago he debuted a couple of songs that are right up there with his best work so I'm really anxious to hear his new one.

Had no idea about the new Todd record. Are Will Kimbrough and Tommy Womack still part of the line up?

I purposely avoid music websites and publications, so as not to ruin the surprise of a new release.

Depending on the band, I'm the same way. I like to be surprised when I hear a new album for the first time.

Plus, the frequency makes it harder and harder to remove the brownish tinge from the monitor! :o

I agree about John Prine. I've heard a bunch of new songs over the last few years. It will be interesting to see what makes the cut.

Will and Tommy will both be part of the Nervous Wrecks when they record the cd in Reno, Nevada on Feb 4th and 5th.

Have you heard any of Tommys solo stuff?

No, I haven't but all of his work has come highly recommended including reading his book Government Cheese.

Jason just played a gig here with Caitlin Cary (Tres Chicas) and Kevn Kinney (Star Tangled Angel Revival) billed as Tres Tangled Truckers where he broke out a tune from fellow Alabamian Mac McAnnally in addition to some stuff from his upcoming solo record. Too bad I had to miss it but it is out there on bit torrent.

Cool. I was lucky enough to catch a Whiskeytown show many years ago. Ryan Adams was drunk and puking in the bathroom and poor Caitlin was having to take care of him.

I saw them twice. Once not long after Strangers Almanac had been released. All was going well until just a few songs into the second set Ryan threw one of his tantrums and the band broke into a Sonic Youth song. A few moments and several slung beers later it was all over. Short and sweet but it was a hell of a show. The second time I saw them was their last show ever at the Lakeside Lounge in Raleigh. They opened with a song Ryan had just written that afternoon (sound familar?) called "Unstable" but never made it to record. Unfortunately no one was taping that night.

If you want to check out Tommy Womack I would suggest starting with "Positively Na Na". "Circus Town" is another good place to start. "Circus Town" includes Tommys salute to the Replacements. Called "the Replacements". The song is hilarious!
