I am clarifying for a friend that Warren Buffett is Jimmy Buffett's uncle. This is true? No?

jimmy has mentioned in the past, that their exact family relationship is unclear. however, jimmy likes to refer to warren as uncle warren. according to a fortune magazine article uncle warren's advice is really responsible for the huge growth of buffett inc. over the last 15 years or so.

It is not known with certainty that they are related at all, although it is possible. Jimmy sometimes refers to "cousin" Warren and other times "uncle" Warren. Both their ancestors came from Nova Scotia, so it is possible there is a relationship.

When Buffett was on Whoopi Goldberg's short lived talk show a few years back it seems she asked if he was related to some black Buffetts she'd encountered on an island she visited when researching her ancestory.

"Uncle" Warren had a very good day on Friday. On paper, he made about $645 million on the purchase of Gillette by Procter & Gamble.
